Official: Judge clears way for Haitian gang leader's removal
Associated Press
MIAMI - A Haitian street gang leader who helped lead the rebellion that forced Haiti's President Jean-Bertrand Aristide out of power is set to be deported, immigration officials said.
A judge in Miami signed an order Monday clearing the way for Butteur Metayer's removal from the United States, said Barbara Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency does not release the day and time of removal.
A Tuesday hearing before an immigration judge was canceled after his "attorney agreed to the order of removal," said Susan Eastwood, a spokeswoman with the Executive Office for Immigration Review.
