~snip~

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen attacked a minibus traveling through Iraq's notorious "Triangle of Death" region south of Baghdad on Tuesday, killing eight people and kidnapping three, police in the area said.

Police said it was not immediately clear who was in the minibus. Sunni insurgents regularly target Iraq security forces and Shi'ite pilgrims in the area.

The lawless zone of dusty towns just south of Baghdad, where the attack took place, is regarded as one of the most dangerous areas of Iraq.

Travelers say cars are routinely stopped by insurgents setting up checkpoints to search for those they regard as collaborating with the Iraqi government and U.S.-led troops. (!!!!!)

:wow:

Unbelievable.

I thought everything was going so well over there? You mean it isn't just a few Saddam loyalists and al Queda members?

Who would have thought?

3. This is not lawlessness.
This is a state-in-formation led by the resistance cadre. They are making the law.

4.  Iraq insurgent attacks kill 17
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews...

<snip>

"A car bomb has killed seven policemen in Saddam Hussein's home town and gunmen have shot dead eight people in a minibus south of Baghdad in the latest attacks to threaten Iraq's January 30 election."

<snip>

"Repeated guerrilla attacks on the Iraqi police and soldiers who will be tasked with protecting polling stations have deepened fears of major bloodletting on the day Iraqis vote in the controversial election."

<snip>

"Insurgents have killed more than 100 Iraqis in the past week alone, mostly security force members they regard as collaborators with foreign occupiers.

But Iraq's Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi has insisted the vote, Iraq's first national ballot since a U.S.-led invasion toppled Saddam, will go ahead as scheduled on January 30."

5. How confusing...
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 07:14 AM by leftchick
Either there were two separate attacks one with guns and one with a roadside bomb or this is the same attack. :shrug:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) A roadside bomb that missed a passing U.S. military convoy killed seven Iraqis and wounded one south of Baghdad Tuesday, police and hospital sources said, while a suicide car bomb at police headquarters in Tikrit killed six.

The victims in the roadside bomb explosion were traveling in a minibus in Yussifiyah, 10 miles south of Baghdad, when the blast occurred, said the director of the town's hospital, Dawoud al-Taie.

6. It is confusing...
...some reports say the minibus was attacked by gunmen and some say it was a roadside bomb. I guess the attacks are coming so frequently it's hard to get the facts straight.
