Mass. Dem Opposes Anti-Abortion Chairman
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=703&e=7&u=/ap/20050110/ap_on_re_us/democrats_chairman

The chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party said Monday that it would be "extremely foolish" for Democrats to chose someone who opposes abortion rights to lead the party.

Phil Johnston, who heads the Democrats in losing presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry's home state, spoke out amid news of former Rep. Tim Roemer's decision to seek the national party's chairmanship.

"The fact that we lost the 2004 presidential race by a narrow margin should not result in the abandonment of our party's core principles," Johnston said.

Democrats, he said, can only regain the White House by choosing someone who can articulate the values of the party and strengthen its grass-roots organization.

Thank you Mr. Johnston for that dose of sanity!

I'm only Vice-Chair of one little county but I add my voice to those urging our voting members of the DNC to not elect anyone who would change our pro-choice position.

6. If they pick a DLC milksop who is also a right to lifer, then
the party can kiss slightly more than half its membership goodbye overnight.

Damned few women will bother with them if they cave on this essential issue.

They won't get any fetus fetishists to change over from the GOP because the fanatics still won't trust them.

This would be the stupidest thing the DLC has ever done, on top of years and years of election losing stupidity.

I wouldn't put it past them, either. Sad.

10. It probably means you need to do some research
on what percent are late term, how late in the term they are done, and most importantly, WHY.

The answers will all surprise you.

11. You may have reservations partially because
you are not a woman.

19. I will grant you that point
I have long felt that a male should tred lightly when commenting on abortion or pregnancy, since a male does not carry the child to term, or deliver it.

Point well taken.

BTW: I am by and large pro-choice.

17. You are welcome to your reservations
Just don't force them on others who have different beliefs is all that pro-choice implies. Choice to have an abortion, or not.

Choice. Remember that word.

13. Should be written "Anti-Abortion Rights."
This is not about someone's sentiment toward abortion, but rather the legality of it. Abortion is now a right, which some want to take away. I'm not hypocritical about this either; I also refer to "gun rights."
