Stocks May Pause After Run-Up
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=568&nci...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A trickle of corporate profit warnings and unimpressive economic data next week may convince investors to cash in some gains from Wall Street's recent run-up, but market gurus expect any decline to be modest and fleeting.

"The trend might be to consolidate here for another week or so, but we are still pretty constructive on the outlook over the course of the year," said Rich Nash, chief market strategist at Victory Capital Management, which oversees about $65 billion. "We would be buyers on that weakness as we think the data is clearly indicating an economy that is recovering."

Wall Street edged lower this week, snapping a five-week streak of gains in the blue-chip Dow Jones industrials average (^DJI - news) and a four-week string in the technology-packed Nasdaq Composite index (^IXIC - news) and broad Standard & Poor's 500 Index (^SPX - news).

"Market expectations have gotten ahead of the data on recovery, and that's why you have seen a pullback this week," said John Davidson, president and chief executive officer at PartnerRe Asset Management, which oversees more than $6 billion.

1. My prediction...
stocks will stay pretty even until a few months before the election when chimpy's friends will artificially boost the indexes to help him get reelected. Buy in February, sell in October.

2. If that hurricane hits as a CAT 5
If that hurricane hits as a CAT 5 all bets are off. I hope it misses. All this economy needs is an excuse to collapse IMHO.

7. Took the words right out of my mouth.
I can't say I know much about the Plunge Protection Team (PPT) but it stand to resone that if they are buying stocks up to keep the price up, they need a whole lota money to do that with. And money like that has to come from some where.

Intresting that Haliberton or the Carlile Groupe (or both probably) need 86 billion. What, don't think all of that money is going to go into Iraq, do you? Especualy as congress is unlikly to grant this money.

I smell a bail out in the works. And at the tune of 86 billion, this could make Worldcom look like a lost piggy bank.
