India's key security adviser dies
BBC News

Indian National Security Adviser JN Dixit has died of a heart attack in the country's capital, Delhi.

He was appointed to the post by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, following the Congress party-led coalition's election victory in May last year.

The 68-year-old was one of India's most distinguished diplomats and a former foreign secretary.

Observers say that as security adviser he played a key role in the recent improvement in relations with Pakistan.
