Iraq to dissolve National Guard
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4133039.stm

Iraq's interim rulers say the National Guard (ING), currently spearheading anti-insurgency activity, is to be dissolved and merged with the army.

The merger was originally planned for much later, after ING defeated the insurgency with the help of US forces.

It will now take place on 6 January, the defence minister said on Wednesday.

No reason was given for the change, but it may be a way to improve recruitment as the ING is seen as ill-disciplined and an easy target for insurgents.

6. The real reason is because NG is helping insurgents
They hope to purge the guardsmen assisting the insurgents during the merger.

12. Negroponte is behind it
There was a report a few months ago where Negroponte created a paramilitary group in Iraq.

And by paramilitary group, I mean death squad. Just like he did in Central America.

7. NG to dissolve army?
The paramilitary ING, which is responsible for internal security, has more than 40,000 troops, according to figures given to the United Nations by US forces occupying Iraq.

The regular army is thought to number barely one tenth of that.

10. So the Iraqi army is only 4,000?
This whole thing strikes me as strange. I wonder what is really going on.

8. Who did a survey
And found that most Iraqis view the Iraqi National Guard as nothing but US puppets? It looks to me the Reason the Term "Iraqi National Guard" had been adopted was that it sounds like it is more local than "Iraq Army", when both are under complete US Control. Given that no one is buying the concept that the Iraqi National Guard is "Iraqi" as opposed to US Control, the US has decided to concentrate on one name for its puppets, "Iraqi Army"..

Another possibility is that the Term "National Guard" was viewed by most Iraqis as a foreign name for occupying troops and thus was found to have interfered with recruitment? Interesting that this is being planned the issue is why? It looks like a "branding" issue, the name is viewed as hurting recruitment (The real reason for the failure to recruit is that most Iraqis oppose the US in Iraq, but like most of Corporate America, that problem is viewed as a Public Relations Problems that has to be address by new "Branding").

Thus I see some desperation here, trying to get people to enlist into an organization whose mission the majority of Iraqis oppose. Someone decided the problem could be solved by changing the Name of the Iraqi National Guard so it has been done. In my opinion just another sign that the situation in Iraq is worse than the US Government is admitting.
