Sharon to visit China

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Wednesday that he has accepted an invitation to visit China, though the visit could be overshadowed by friction over a snagged Israeli-Chinese weapons deal.




Sharon accepted the invitation during a meeting in Jerusalem with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan, the most senior Chinese official to visit Israel in nearly five years.

"It is common practice to refuse an invitation the first time, and even the second time," Sharon was quoted as saying in a statement from his office. "I will accept this one on the spot."

The invitation was made though Israel and China find themselves embroiled in a potentially damaging argument over Israeli manufactured drone aircraft, purchased by China and sent to Israel for an upgrade

I really doubt that Israel is American's friend. They have their own self interest in mind at all times and if their self interest coincides with US policies etc -- that at that moment they might be a friend of the US.

But if they see the balance of power shift -- they will be the new best friends of whoever they see as the new bully on the block.

With China owning a massive chuck of US debt -- bought with the toil and sweat and lives of the Chinese people -- China is emerging is the newest bully on the planet.

Israel is smart enough to know that it has no permanent friends, only permanent interests, while our country continues to be absolutely fixated on the notion of Israel as our eternal friend whose interests are identical to our own.
