Bush makes bold pitch
for missile defence shield

U.S. President George W. Bush made a bold and unexpected pitch Wednesday to get Canada to sign on to his ambitious and costly ballistic missile defence plan.

"I hope we'll also move forward on ballistic missile defence co-operation to protect the next generation of Canadians and Americans from the threats we know will arise", Bush said during a major foreign policy speech in Halifax.
