Former Afghan warlord faces re-trial in London
Thu 25 November, 2004 13:15

LONDON (Reuters) - A former warlord charged with conspiracy to torture and take hostages in Afghanistan will have to stand trial in London for a second time after a jury failed to reach a verdict in his first trial.

A judge said on Thursday the re-trial of Farayadi Sarwar Zardad, 41, would probably take place next summer.

Zardad was put on trial earlier this year accused of committing and ordering atrocities between 1991 and 1996 when he commanded an area of Afghanistan.

But last week the jury in the case said it could not decide whether he was guilty or innocent.
