Pentagon launches troop support campaign
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Saturday 20th November, 2004

Eager not to repeat the mistakes of the Vietnam War era, the U.S. Defense Department Friday launched a support our troops program.

The America Supports You effort is meant to help the Pentagon find all the grass roots troop support programs -- fundraising drives, letter-writing campaigns and such -- so they can communicate them to American forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The reason we decided to launch the campaign is that troops over there are asking, 'do Americans still support us,'" said Allison Barber, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for public liaison and internal communications.

When in doubt start a Marketing Blitz!!! Pentagon has got to be kidding!!!

How soon the sheep forget the criminal element. They are about to be deified again. They should be prosecuting these war criminals. Not making them cuddly soft and oh, I forgot the Princess.

2. I'd never go through Pentagon for it
But I do feel for the kids there. So many joined for other benefits...training, experience, work, college. A lot had a surge of patriotism after 9/11 and for sure national guard never expected this kind of deployment.

Poor kids, damn adminisration.

The question is: How do we support the people living through hell without appearing to support the evil bastards who sent them there?

I feel like they're being exploited but wonder if the people over there feel that way.

4. Pentagon supports fundraising program for troops
A logical person might conclude that the only reason any fundraising was necessary was because the Pentagon -the rich, rich, overfunded, rich and bloated Pentagon- just didn't realize a need.

Operation Bakesales for Body Armor?

6. I support the troops....BRING THEM HOME NOW.
This is part of the plan to divide the country....force people to take one side or the other. They could give a rat's ass about our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers....this is about creating enemies out of people who disagree with this illegal and immoral war.

Get used to saying it loud and proud. I support the troops....BRING THEM HOME NOW.

7. And this is just after they told us
no packages for soldiers would be accepted except from family...no sending things to an anonymous soldiers.

The Pentagon wants the credit for support from the people.

Well, this person says, "No way in hell."

But I'm sure a lot of church groups will go for it.

Anyone have a link to this? I have been planning to do exactly that. What on earth is the rationale?

10. fundraising??!!
Despite being referred to as 'grunts' these GIs are not stupid. They get over there and see first hand the debacle. I hear it from my own nephews.
They know what the war is about. The only mistake the DOD does not want to make is a military draft. That will be the kiss of death to the empire. Rumsfeld would rather kiss Condi Rice than have a draft.

11. Taxation = fundraising.
They already raised the funds. Most of our tax money is spent on defense. Let the Pentagon spend it on the soldiers and the equipment they need.

17. America already supports the TROOPS. This sounds more like
"support * and the Pentagon" to me.

"Pentagon launches troop support campaign?"

Nah. More like "Pentagon launches major brainwashing campaign."

20. Has nothing to do with troops
and everything to do with psyoping US citizens, yet again, into towing the line in support of this war machine. The troops aren't asking "do Americans still support us", but the government is. Utter BS.

22. Our troops as political human shields
I'm sick of people equating our troops with our adminstration's policies. If you don't support our warmongers, that means you don't support our troops. False.

Support our troops = support our chickenhawk warmongers. NOT.

Stop using our troops as political human shields.

24. It is interesting how the Pentagon has many dollars to spend on...
ad campaigns yet the troops still do not all have body armor, the vehicles still are not re-inforced. I see their priorities are still the same. Pull the wool over the eyes of the US public at any cost.

26. This is just another way of getting support for the war.
A sleazy way of doing too. The Pentagon should not be allowed to do this. Anybody have any idea what laws this violates? Something about Public Relations.
