U-S soldier killed in "non- hostile" shooting
(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- A U-S soldier has been killed in what the military says was a "non-hostile gunshot incident" in Iraq.

A second soldier was wounded. Both soldiers were from the Fourth Infantry Division, but the military isn't giving any other details.

Meantime, military police have secured a prison near Baghdad that came under attack early today. Three explosions rocked the area while military police were operating nearby. A military team was sent in to investigate, but there were no reports of arrests.

6. Yes this one is different
This one mentioned the 4th Infantry, the other one was from the 101st or attached to the 3rd ACR.

2. Isn't this the second U.S. soldier killed by non-hostile gunshot?
It seems to me we had a similar story about a week ago. Did the U.S. ever say what happened then?

7. WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU ETC. ETC.
Someone here yesterday said dead is dead.

Outrageous how the spinners can hide these deaths from the people and how the country can just ignore this.

IE: pass the salad Gertrude, I wanna listen to the ballgame

DISGUSTING !!!!!

8. A second soldier was wounded? Friendly fire?
Non-hostile = non-combat = under-reported by every major news outlet.

As in 3x soldiers were killed in hostile combat since May 1st, not 7x which is the actual number of soldiers killed, but we don't want to alarm you, so if say 5 soldiers were killed in an incident, we'll report it as 1 dead and 4 wounded and then later on, on a day in which there were no fatalities we'll inform you that one of the wounded soldiers died in a "non-hostile" incident. This way we are sparing you the shock of finding out about it all at once, and further more, it'll allow us to parse the casuality numbers to further dilute the impact. We do this because although we are objective journalists, our primary function is to protect dumb Americans, like you, from the truth we know you are emotionally incapable of handling. You don't mind, right? Didn't think so.

5. There is also the strong potential for in-fighting amongst the troops
Allot of the soldiers are week-end warriors. It's hot, morale is down, and everybody is packing.

10. Now you can see why...
...Bush was originally against nation building. It's easy for the U.S. to go into Iraq and kick ass, but sticking around to rebuild the country is complicated. Positives come in the long term. Negatives come in the short term.

Staying to rebuild is the right thing to do after we (illegally) invaded Iraq. Unfortunately for Bush, those long term positives may not take root until after the 2004 election.

14. We should rebuild but they won't let us.
Every rebuilding effort will be torn down by one faction or the other.

They want us gone. We have to go.

11. 212 US soldiers killed in Iraq since war began: Pentagon
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/07/10/1057783290333.html

A total of 212 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq, including 143 who died in combat since the outset of the war, the Defence Department said yesterday.

The total includes 74 soldiers who have died since May 1, when US President George W. Bush declared the end of major hostilities in Iraq, Lieutenant-Colonel Cynthia Colin said.

and I believe that this number is not counting any deaths since Tuesday - July 10, 2003

12. I thought the war was over?
If the war is over how come these boy's keep getting killed? Now we are involved up to our necks in Islamic politics.A very dangerous place to be, especially for an American. Seems to me that if we hadn't went to Iraq in the first place there would be no need to find a way out.
