PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A TV reporter was convicted of criminal contempt Thursday for refusing to say who leaked him an FBI videotape of a politician taking a bribe - the latest in a string of cases in which journalists have been threatened with jail for protecting a source.

Jim Taricani of WJAR was found guilty by a judge after a 45-minute trial and could get up to six months behind bars when he is sentenced next month.

Taricani called the verdict an ``assault on journalistic freedom'' and said he never thought he would have to serve time for doing his job.

4. I support informant confidentiality...
... generally, but I'd love to see Novak in a cell. I don't want him in a cell with a journalist... I want him in a cell with a large cruel man who wants a permanent relationship and likes older guys.

3. 'was' being the operative word
freedom of the press is one of those pesky bill of rights things that are getting shredded along with the rest of that outdated parchment paper radical agenda.

5. Since the politican he outed is republican he goes to jail
if it were the other way around, the mainstream media would have picked up the story and proclaimed him the next Burnstein.

7. that's an AP story.....
and hundreds of mainstream papers HAVE picked it up. He doesn't qualify as a Bernstein, but he will get plenty of support from his colleagues. As a working journalist myself, I am sure of it.

6. speaking of parchment...
When Clinton was pres there was a restoration/protection thing w/ the Constitution and Declaration of Independence being sealed in argon gas behind bullet proof glass. Much like 'Animal Farm' aren't these rat bastards going 2 have 2 sneak in and change the wording @ some point?
