What Are You Doing Today To Cope?
I piled some wood (we have a fireplace). It's a beautiful fall day (considering), so I went for a walk. I am going to rake some leaves shortly. maybe if I die working, this will all go away.


P.S. Actually, I am feeling a little better. Sort of like I am shaking the dust off, and starting to work for '08. We better not waste ANY time.

38. You'll have a wonderful time
I saw Brian in Boston a few weeks ago and the show was fabulous. he does about 3 roughly 45 minute long sets. The first is BW solo and middle - period Beach Boys stuff, the middle is "Smile", and the last part is early Beach Boys hits. By Brian doesn't have the range he did at 18 but his huge (18 piece) band cleverly fills in what he's missing.

As for me, I went to the gym and lifted weights until I was exhausted. I'm not feeling as depressed now.

23. I had the same feeling this morning.
I got up early, fed the birds, and sat on the deck drinking hot chocolate and watched them feed. Everything seemed so calm at 6:45 in Western PA, it almost made me think things were going to be better.

I even had a small hawk fly through and try to eat those at the feeder. I sat and watched him for a few minutes. When he left, so did I - but at least I got to work early today.

8. I stayed home
I live in an old house -- probably 1930's. And, I swear, the original wooden screen door is on the back door still. It slaps every time someone comes in and goes out. The sound reminds me of summers in my childhood. I love that sound, and everyone knows they'd better never mess with my screen door.

Anyway, the dh went out a while ago, and that door slapped. It was the sweetest sound I've heard in ages. Thing is, I'll probably be okay. I weep for all the others who'll lose loved ones in Bush's war(s) and who'll lose jobs. But I'll be okay. (Not much consolation.)

and spend some time with my animals and work around the place.

It took the right 26 years to get here. I remember something from the movie Gandhi, I'm not sure if it is a real quote of his but it goes like this,

Planning for the worst
And thinking ahead of time on how to convince my neighbors and friends that were "undecided" last week that voting for liars and thieves is not such a great idea. They'll be more receptive when things get really bad (and they will get really bad) and the message should be developed ASAP as far as I'm concerned.

I'm taking her out to a nice dinner, having flowers delivered to her workplace, and thinking of other ways to celebrate.
I don't have an election win to celebrate, but I can just look within my own little life for today. I've still got my love. One of the few things they can't take.

I know this sounds so flakey, but I really think its time to at least discuss this. Here's a copy of my letter.


When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to
dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to
assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to
which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect
to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes
which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that
among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure
these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just
powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of
Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People
to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its
foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to
them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. . . . it
is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to
provide new Guards for their future security.

On November 3, 2004 George W. Bush was elected to a second term in office as
President of the United States, culminating what has been a downward spiral
in American affairs that to my fifty plus years began with Ronald Reagan.
During this period, we have watched as American policies began to lean
farther and farther toward the conservative spectrum. The only political
party which attempts to represent those citizens with a more liberal and
humanist frame of mind determined that the only way in to the White House
was to compromise its own beliefs in an effort to match the growing rightism
of a very vocal portion of society. Not only has this failed, but it has
also alienated the very citizens it purports to represent.

At a time when the current administration has waged an imperialistic war
against a sovereign nation by lying to the citizens it is supposed to
represent, there has been a largely unheard hue and cry for impeachment
proceedings. This cry has remained unanswered perhaps because Democratic
politicians have no faith that it could be carried out. Our position in the
world has never been at such a low ebb. Indeed it may only be because we are
not signatories to the International Court that the world community has not
filed indictments against this nation for its aggressive war and for crimes
against humanity.

On the homefront, relations among citizens has never been more polarized.
Half of the citizenry refuse to talk to the other half. Catcalls and
obscenities greet those who would speak out against the current
administration. We have, indeed, finished the most embarrassing election in
my life's history; where it has been allowable to make many, many libelous
claims against candidates without the necessity for proving those libels or
being held to them in a court of law, thereby unjustly removing candidates
from consideration by the public at large.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that a very small majority of
Americans now favor a theocracy and expect their government to reflect, not
the values of our constitution, but the moral values of Christianity. This
movement happily sets neighbor against neighbor and allows tax free
religious institutions to use their ecclesiastic powers to tell citizens how
to vote. These neoconservatives have played free with using citizens
against one another, abusing their charge to provide for the welfare and
equality of all groups.

It is our right, as well as our duty, to investigate the option of
dissolving our current political association. I humbly request that our
Democratic politicians begin such a discussion and make it as open and
interactive a forum as possible, that all 49.3% of us might have the
opportunity to determine the government under which we would be governed.

Dear DNC:

Last year I ordered Hillary Clinton’s book and pledged $29.95 per month to the DNC. At this time, I find myself no longer interested in supporting the Democratic National Committee financially. Please discontinue the monthly charges to my credit card. If there are further charges on my Visa, I will dispute them.

I am extremely disenchanted with the performance of the DNC during this 2004 election cycle for several reasons, and will not be supporting your efforts monetarily until things change within your organization.

First, the entire process that occurs during the primary season needs to be fundamentally overhauled. How is it that a small state in the Midwest named IOWA - literally decides the one person who gets the big MO -- who usually becomes the Democratic nominee? We need to have a broader mandate in this primary process, both in geographic involvement and diversity of voters. I strongly suggest the DNC consider regional primaries, or a ‘mass primary’ held on one day that makes this process more fair. By the time some states held their primary this time, it was so moot that hardly anyone cared about or covered the results because John Kerry was already the crowned the "Prince!"

No more Iowa choices, rubber-stamped by New Hampshire!

Secondly, I left the Republicans in 1992 with Bill Clinton and never looked back, however, I have ALWAYS considered myself an Independent. This cycle though I donated money to the Democratic Party. During the primary this past year I was reminded why I won’t ever consider myself a “true” Democrat, when my primary choice, Gen. Wesley Clark was chided by some of the party faithful for having only recently changed his party affiliation to ‘D’ in late 2003. Does one need to have a pedigree to join this group? If that’s required count me out! (I have held this inside for awhile, but with the defeat of Kerry and unraveling of the Democratic party, I am putting my cards on the proverbial table: Shame on you! )

I suggest the higher ups in the organization read, read, read George Lakoff's MORAL POLITICS, because the very reasons why the DNC can't win elections is all nicely spelled out in his book. You have allowed the Republican metaphors to control the very fiber of this country. Things won't change until YOU counter their dialogue.

For these reasons, along with the lack of a clear direction and focus in the Democratic party have forced me to reconsider continuing my financial contributions to this effort. Please discontinue charges on my credit card immediately.

The Declaration of Independence was and still is a most revolutionary document. And I for one do not think it lunacy to espouse it nor your feelings. I find them very similar to my own.

45. Venus... me, too...
I'm a 50 year old college student with a 4.0. But now, I am so far behind, I don't know how I will recover. I have a major exam tomorrow, and have not studied for it at all. This is not like me. But I have no focus. I have lost my center. I range from rage to depression. My husband is feeling the same as me. I had hoped Kerry would fight this. His speech gave me no hope for my future, for my daughter's future. Nothing. I feel empty. Drained. For once in my life, I really am at a loss of words. I do not know what to do, where to turn, how to feel. I have lost all hope. I feel disenfranchised. This is no longer my country, and how could that have happened? I feel that I no longer have a voice at all. No one in power truly cares about me. I am bereft; I am disillusioned; I am disempowered. I am, simply put, lost. I never lost my hope, even after all we fought for in the 60s and the 70s. But now... it is gone, and I really don't know what to do to restore any semblance of faith in my country, in my life, in my future--our future. I am lost this morning in a land I do not recognize. There are no markers, nothing to cling to. I wander in the dark...

watching event unfold and our country's future be screwed...I actually was able to force down a small french bread pizza, which is good, cause I don't know when I'll be able to work up the will to eat again. Just sitting around...it's a scary thing when you don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Hello everybody.Today, I had a job interview and then after the job interview, I watched Sen.Kerry's concession speech, while eating lunch at the Democratic Club and then came home, to start applying to jobs again, here in the dc metro area.And, tonight, I will be vicariously living my life again through the West Wing,AHAHHAHAHHA.Everybody should remember that we all made a difference by making this presidential election competitive and we should start preparing for the 2006 mid-term elections!

The Kerry volunteers here in Chicago are already in touch, trying to figure out what to do with our data base of hundreds of volunteers.

I have three suggestions so far:

1. Pick out two or three congressional races in 2006 and flood the candidate with volunteers and funds. My first suggestion is to go after Denny Hastert, but I am open to suggestions.

2. Start an impeachment drive. It will probably take a long time to get anything going, since the Repukes control the house, but lying to congress is a felony and an impeachable offense, and the Smirking Sociopath clearly lied about WMD, the cost of the war and the cost of the prescription plan.

3. Begin a major email campaign to convince Europeans, Canadians and other interested parties to boycott all red states and red-state corporations. Reroute all their tourism dollars to NY, Cali and Chicago and the like, and starve Florida, Louisiana and the like.

4. Begin a research group to identify strongly pro-Bush corporations and associations. The NCBA (beef producers) are crowing about the Bush win and how much money they gave to the punk. It would not be hard to find out their membership and specifically buy from beef producers who are not affiliated. Wal-Mart, which for many years has claimed it gave to both parties equally, was outed by the WSJ this week as giving over 80 percent of its donations (and it is the second biggest individual corporate donor in the U.S.) to Bush and the GOP.

That's all I have so far, but I've been buried in work all day. I am sure I will come up with more.

62. Woke up with the reality of the election hitting me hard
Just lay in bed thinking. My 2 cats sensed my mood and each climbed on me and lay on my chest looking at me empathetically.

I decided to do a few rituals. I am wearing all black today. I immediately removed my Kerry/Edwards bumpersticker. These two actions were a way for me to acknowledge the truth:This nation is fucked.

All the Kerry supporters at work are quiet, personally mourning. My cubemate who is a fundamentalist born-again christian is the cheeriest I've seen for a while. Today I just hate being in the same cube with her.

I am feeling better now though; read a thread about how we Democrats need to have our own TV media outlets. This discussion has brought me around to a place of gettin' up on that horse again.

Glad DU is here for me to share thoughts and feelings with others.

64. started out by forcing myself
to get up and out of bed and do a really tough one and three-quarters hour workout - got a LOT of stress and bad feelings out that way. NO tv today. went to see clients, picked up work and got a lot of work done. i'm not gonna let them destroy me. i had really gotten myself way too worked up the last couple of weeks.

66. Sitting here in class, reading DU posts....
Fiance got up at 2 am, looked at TV. I got a bad feeling. Had to check DU to see what was really going on...
Worried worried worried, couldn't sleep. Checked this morning, got really pissed.
Made a nice breakfast for fiance and went to class. Came back, watched Concession and got pissed at Kerry for not being pissed. Dammit. (The counting isn't done yet! Why do we have to know right now???)
Drank hot cider, loafed around the net. Made a nice lunch for fiance.
Then came to my 3 hour land use law class which seems worthless now. Oregon passed Measure 37 which effectively kills any land use and environmental regualtions in this state and will bankrupt it and kill off every thing we love about it.
Tonight, my fiance is making me a nice dinner, and then I'm going to suggest we watch an old movie (maybe Blazing Saddles), and drink a beer I had saved for celebration (which is now mourning), and go to bed.
Thanks for being here for me DU. It's been the only thing keeping me going today (well, that and my finace... :)

I am suicidally depressed.

69. Went back to bed after getting up really early
Watched Kerry's concession speech & then muted tv because I couldn't stand to hear all the analyses. After shooting middle finger at tv several times when * appeared, I realized my actions weren't healthy.

Went outside to walk my dogs, pull up dead plants, and clean flower beds. That made me feel better, and now I'm going to get off the computer, turn off the tv, and read some.

Tomorrow I'll mow the lawn and work some more outside. Keeping busy really helps relieve my stress.

I am still there on the floor out of it, sort of in a time warp or something or as if I had been in an accident. It has hit me what happened, but I can't let it in as it is too painful. I couldn't watch Kerry or Bush today. I just can't believe this. I was listening to this horeshit that many voters said "moral values" were the most important thing, above Iraq, the economy, domestic policy, jobs, the deficit, etc. I am not only upset about the election, but I think this country is headed fast into the toilet. I thought Kerry would win yesterday. I put my Kerry yard signs in the garage and was looking at them, just looking at them. I am wondering about the Ohio and Florida votes and think there are ballots somewhere destroyed or uncounted (like 2000'S tricks). When the majority of the people in this country are more concerned about gay marriage amendments and not Iraq or jobs, we might as well let mullahs run this country. We are going backwards, becoming religion-oriented rather than secular, etc.
