Aides: Shelley may resign
http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/12126101p-12996981c.html

Secretary of State Kevin Shelley, who faces another rebuke Tuesday with the release of a highly critical report on his personnel practices, has told aides and others close to him that he may resign from office rather than answer all the allegations he's facing in multiple investigations.
The embattled Democrat had insisted for months that he had done nothing wrong and would not be forced from office. But a number of sources close to Shelley, while not predicting what he ultimately will decide, said he has repeatedly brought up the subject of resignation in recent days.

while I don't want to see this office fall into the hands of the Repukes, shouldn't we hold our own office holders to the same standards that we do the Repukes--i. e. Chuck Quackenbush (or whatever in the hell his name is)

1. CRAP!
I remember meeting Kevin Shelly that Cal Demo convention in 2002. I voted for him everytime he ran for Supervisor in SF and voted for him in 2002.

This sucks.

5. Really?
Wow!

Too bad Michela Alioto didn't get nod, she almost beat Jones in 1998.

9. What is this all about?
The gist I got is that he used some of his office people for non-government work? Is that the extent of it?

6. Gee, then we get to have our own Glenda Hood or Blackwell here.
No wonder Arnold trusts ballot initiatives.

7. It's all political. He supposedly had officials deliver a non-business
-related envelope - you know the type of thing Republicans would not think twice about if it were one of their own.

12. Not necessarily politically motivated
The accusations of creating "a hostile work environment" are not inconsistent with what my friend says of her experience working with Shelley. She is well placed in one of the California museums that fall under his jurisdiction, and she told me of unfavorable encounters she had with him as late as last August. Simply put, the charges may, indeed, be very real.

13. ummm....most officials are not exactly pussy cats in the workplace.
I've worked in the state capitol, and most of these guys are egomaniacs. Since when is not winning the congeniality contest grounds for kicking someone out of office?

14. I don't disagree...
and I'm not attempting to pass judgment, but my friends connection to Shelley only came up when I was discussing BBV and SOS with her. I didn't realize the state museums were under the authority of SOS at that time. She voiced her opinion of Shelley freely, and strongly, and in no uncertain terms. Hmmm, and just when does "not exactly pussy cats in the workplace" cross the line and become "a hostile work environment"? All I am saying is that the charges may, indeed, be very real, but as I stated to genius, the accusations are not necessarily politically motivated.

11. No, people resign for lots of reasons all the time. Pressure,
fear of retribution, pressure from the Party weenies.

The point is, he's being smeared for standing up to the Bush Mafia. God, it's so obvious.

4. Fine, but the deputy should take over.
No way should the state senate approve a Republican to the post unless there is a written pledge not to run again. And even then, it makes more sense for the well respected deputy to remain at her post.

8. But they will approve a Republican.
Arnold will go on TV and call them girly men if they don't approve the worst Republican he can locate.

10. I'm being VERY tiresome but please take note
WE aren't in any position to judge the alleged missteps Shelley MAY have committed.

WE are in the position to observe, he decertified Diebold and then, the attacks began in earnest.

If he did wrong, let him be tried.

Don't try this man in the court of public opinion when THE WHOLE COUNTRY is looking to see if it is POSSIBLE to stand up to dirty voting machines and not be abandoned by the very voters you tried to respect.

Do you have ANY idea how much disenfranchised voters in OH, Fl, NW, NV would do to have Kevin Shelley in office?

Please. We are not judge and jury -- we're consumers of skewed news.

Call his office and let him know you support his work for clean elections.

15. thanks, sounds like Ca's 55 votes are at stake
Arnold will push for a texas style gerrymandering initiative this May? I think. Shelly has had a lot to so and has done so competently. Yeah I know he yells at employees.
