Kerry Press Release: Bush Campaign Busted Passing Out "Swift Boat" Flyer
For Immediate Release
August 20, 2004

Bush Campaign Busted Passing Out “Swift Boat Veterans for Bush” Flyer

Washington, DC - Despite constant denials, the Bush-Cheney campaign today was busted coordinating with the “Swift Boat Veterans for Bush” in their smear campaign against John Kerry. The following press release was issued this afternoon by the Florida Democratic Party. The evidence is attached.

“Bush Campaign Caught Promoting "Swift Boat Vets for Truth"
While National Campaign Denies Coordination, Campaign in Florida Promotes Rally

Tallahassee -- On the same day that the Bush-Cheney campaign repeatedly denied coordinating attacks with the anti-Kerry group "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth," the Bush-Cheney campaign in Florida was caught promoting a rally in Gainesville for the group.

A flyer being distributed at the Alachua County Republican party headquarters, which doubles as the Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters for the county, promotes a weekend rally sponsored by "Swift Boat Vets for Truth, Veterans for Bush, Alachua Bush/Cheney Committee," and others.

"George Bush has disgraced himself by allowing his campaign to promote the ugly smears being spread by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth," said Scott Maddox, Chairman of the Florida Democratic Party. "The Bush campaign has repeatedly denied any involvement with this group, but now we know the real truth. While George Bush falsely declares his respect for John Kerry's war record, his henchmen on the ground in Florida are attacking it under the radar."

George Bush has repeatedly refused to condemn ads being run the Swift Boat group, even as Senator John McCain has called on him to do so. Stories in yesterday's Washington Post and New York Times exposed the group's ads as false and undercut the claims made by many of the members of the group. The New York Times also revealed extensive ties between donors to the Swift Boat group and Karl Rove, Bush's top political strategist.

Even as they refused to condemn the ads, the Bush campaign has denied any involvement with the group. "We've made it very clear that we ... will never raise questions about his service," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said yesterday. "We haven't, and we won't."

Maddox said that the Bush campaign's activities in Florida undercut its claim.

"George Bush doesn't have a plan to rebuild America's economy or restore its respected position in the world, so instead of discussing the issues, he launches vicious attacks against John Kerry's heroic war record," Maddox said. "The attacks themselves are false, and now we know that the Bush campaign's denial of involvement in them is too."

Maddox called on the Bush campaign to end its involvement with the group and renounce the group's ads.

A copy of the flyer being distributed by the Bush campaign in Florida is attached.”

2. This confirms it...
The Bush-inspired republicans, on the whole, are the lowest form of life on Earth. I'm sorry that their candidate sucks ass so badly that he can't win an election fair and square.. but the idea that these people are hate-mongering, smearing, and destroying, AND asking you to bring a FUCKING PICNIC LUNCH, is enough to push many of us fine Democrats over the edge. I hate them.. I truly hate them. Please.. someone remind me about what Buddha or Jesus or Ghandi said about loving my enemies.... I never thought of them as enemies before today. I have arrived.

49. Well I For One
Have always considered them enemies, enemies of freedom and liberty.

None of us are Buddha, Jesus, or even Ghandi, we can only do the best we can with what we have and who we are.

So do the best you can.

64. Perhaps I'll take up knitting..
.. that might occuppy my mind for a while. Seriously, I DO try to rise above the hate, I do.. but sometimes it's a motivating emotion that keeps us from being silent. Think I'll channel it as anger.. that's much more transitory, and perhaps healthy. :grr:

But.. a "picnic basket"??? Why does THAT bother me so much? I guess the thought of little children and families acting as though the destruction of another man's honor is a wholesome event. sigh

The Pukes will get a little rebound at the RNC, so Kerry should be saving any more major revelations until then. Kick them in the balls after the RNC, and they won't have any more opportunities to get back up from their stooping positions. Best strategy--slow but steady.

That pathetic excuse for a journalist was criticizing the Kerry campaign for making allegations that Bush has ties to the swift boat veterans without any proof.

I sent him a note that since he was incapable of doing any TRUE investigative reporting, at the very least he should report this story and stop being Karl Rove's pawn.

43. Minnesota GOP website - link to buy Swift Liar's Book
Bush Campaign: Swift Vets "Amazingly Believeable" - Plus: MNGOP Endorses!
by punishinglemur
Fri Aug 20th, 2004 at 11:20:17 GMT

Bush Campaign Officials say attacks "amazingly believeable!"
On August 5, Larry Colson, Bush's eCampaign chairman for Minnesota, directed Minnesota Bush supporters to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's attack ad, saying, "This is an amazingly believable ad." Text and screenshot of message available below. More, including accusations that Kerry wounded himself... The research behind this entry, along with supporting documents, was originally posted at my blog, Minnesota Republican Watch.

Webpage "prepared and paid for by Republican Party of Minnesota" and hosted on the official Republican Party of Minnesota website endorses attacks!

The webpage has these questions about John Kerry's service in Vietnam:
SWIFT VETS ARE GETTING TO KERRY
DID HE LIE ABOUT HIS SERVICE, repeatedly, in an effort to embellish it?
DID HE TAKE CREDIT for engagements fought by other men (Lt. Ted Peck in particular)?

The website also contains a link to purchase the book produced by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, "Unfit For Command". The webpage belongs to Senate District 42 Republicans.

I heard about this rally at the beginning of the week. I was planning to go to protest.

I couldn't believe these turkeys had picked Gainesville for a rally, because Alachua County is very Democratic. No less, two days of this crap?

Now the whole thing is leading straight to the WH? Holy cow, I think things are going to get very interesting around here. I can't wait.

83. McCain to Bush "You should be ashamed"!
Bush seems to like attacking Vietnam veterans and using fringe groups to do it. In 2000 Bush stood alongside someone McCain called a spokesman for a fringe veterans group who had denouced McCain for "abandoning" Vietnam veterans. During their later debate McCain told Bush "let me tell you what really went over the line. I don't know if you can understand this George, but that hurts, that really hurts. There was no mention of McCain's service as a military pilot, nor of his imprisonment and torture in the Hanoi Hilton (No George thats not a real hotel). Everyone knew what McCain meant. McCain told Bush" You should be ashamed"! Five United States senators -Vietnam veterans - wrote George a letter and said "Apologize, You should be ashamed". In a statement that seems amazingly familiar Bush lamely said "I'm proud of your record, just like you are and conceded that McCain had served his country well and had not abandoned veterans.

I agree with John McCain. President Bush should be ashamed for his cowardly attacks on other peoples sacrifice and service using splinter groups. President Bush should be ashamed. The media should be ashamed for being duped into reporting lies without confirmation and investigation. America should be ashamed if we elect a president who has no respect for truth and who believes the end justifies the means. Isn't that the rational used by terrorist groups as well?

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth Disavow Florida Political Flyer

August 21, 2004 - Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT), a non-partisan group representing more than 250 Swift Boat veterans who served with Senator John Kerry in Vietnam, repudiates and disassociates itself from the flyer that was allegedly distributed in Florida regarding an upcoming political event. SBVT has not authorized any such rallies, communications, events or other similar political activities with any political party, candidate or other political organization. Any suggestion that SBVT coordinated the production and distribution of this flyer promoting an event, or the event itself, with a political party is false.

SBVT is an independent organization dedicated to correcting the false statements made by Senator Kerry about his service record in Vietnam and the service records of the men who served with him. SBVT acts independently from and is not affiliated with any political party – Republican, Democratic, or independent – or any candidate for public office. Only the SBVT Executive Committee, comprised of men who served on Swift Boats in Vietnam, has the authority to authorize communications on behalf of the organization or official events.

The following was an email response I received from these clowns about the SBVT flyer and rally.

Mr. Anonymous,
Anybody can make a flyer. There was no, I repeat no, coordination
with the Party or the Bush/Cheney Campaign. These gentlemen,
these HIGHLY DECORATED WAR VETERANS, are acting of the own accord.
However, this is NOT an "official" Republican event!
Lastly, don't pick out the new White House furniture just yet....

144. You should've heard the rebuttal from one of the demonstrators
This fat blonde woman decked out in a blue and white-striped shirt with a Bush pin was screaming at all the press there, ranting and raving about the liberal media this, the leftist that, "that disgrace" (one of the Alachua County Democratic campaigners), yada yada yada. Another one was accusing the Democrats of having spies in the Alachua office... the reporters there were assailed pretty badly by the fat one, especially the Gainesville Sun intern.

However, until they were forced to make way, the Kerry-Edwards people took up most stage-right and out-numbered the SwiftBoaters and Bush-Cheney people about 30-15, although by the time I left it was about 30-25. I'll give one of them credit though; he was an amusingly theatrical speaker.

I couldn't stick around for the entire event; I wasn't quite prepared for it; hopefully another Gainesville DUer can give some updates and photos.

Interesting comment there about Patrick Hynes, the Senior Account Executive and chief copywriter for Marsh Copsey + Scott, the gold-standard of Republican political consultants. For more than two decades, provided full-service campaign and media consulting to over 350 Republican candidates, the Republican National Committee, and many state committees.

Hynes runs the CrushKerry.com site that has many links to the not-so-swift vets.

This thing looks more and more coordinated.

Democrats say GOP backs Gainesville anti-Kerry rally; GOP denies

By KEN THOMAS
Associated Press Writer

The squabble over Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's war record came to Florida on Friday, with Democrats accusing the Bush campaign of promoting a Gainesville rally featuring an anti-Kerry group.

Florida Democratic Party chairman Scott Maddox said fliers for Saturday's rally featuring "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" were distributed at the Alachua GOP headquarters, which houses the local Bush campaign office.

Bush campaign spokesman Reed Dickens said the presidential campaign "had absolutely nothing to do with this Swift boat organization."

128. O. K., I know I'm reading and responding late, but did you catch
the funniest line? "Facts from Kerrylies.com" Is that the oxymoron of the year or what? That is an obvious anti-Kerry website, and there would hardly be any "facts" because the lies are made up. Sheesh!

143. Alachua County Republican Chairman responds to the flyer . . .
A fellow I know from another message board sent the following to the Alachua county Republican HQ:

>Would you care to comment about claims that your party is having
>a "PRO USA RALLY" this weekend that includes the Swift Boat Vets
>for Truth, and that flyers are being distributed?
>
>There is no mention of this event in your online calendar.
>
>I've seen photos of your headquarters, with the flyer prominently
>displayed on an easel along with other upcoming events inside the
>building located at 1212 N. Main St. Gainesville FL.
>
>How to you explain the discrepancy between the Bush
>administration denying any involvement with SBVT and your county
>chapter sponsoring an event that features this group?
>
>Or perhpas you'd like to do the right and honorable thing by
>denouncing them as the inveterate liars that they are, officially
>disassociating your organization from SBVT, and excluding them
>from your rally?
>
>Thanks for contributing yet another reason why Bush will be sent
>packing in November!
>
>KERRY/EDWARDS '04 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>
>

Travis Horn, the chairman of Alachua County Republicans, responded with the following:

Mr. Anonymous,
Anybody can make a flyer.

145. WOW! THAT MAKES LIARS OUT OF BOTH THE SWIFTIES
AND THE BUSH ADMINSISTRATION!

As if these Fraudboaters had no connections to the White House! Did anyone read the NY Times article the other day about the very clear connections between the two, or Keith Olberman's graphic summary on screen during his show yesterday? No Q about it - The Fraudboat Vets are fronts for Bush's campaign - a violation of the current campaign laws. I wish Kerry/Edwards all the best in their suit to have their smear ads enjoined from further airing.

MAN, this Bushco team is DIRTY! FILTHY DIRTY!!!
