Obama stumbles in battle for Clinton supporters
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 07:52 PM by OzarkDem
Again, McCain is out on the campaign trail in an aggressive outreach effort to pick up votes from the millions of women who supported Clinton.

So far, McCain is winning the "issue" battle - doing a much better job of defining women's issues, ie choice, equal pay & income security and portability & affordability for health insurance. He's also stressing bipartisanship, luring those ever-important independent women voters.

He's also making the appeal personal, doing town hall meetings, conference calls, etc. himself.

What's Obama doing? He's sending surrogates to talk about abortion and reproductive rights. He's talking about "urban voters"? With every passing day I wonder if he's already decided to write off women voters.

Get cracking Obama. Bring your conversation on women's issues out of the 70's and make the appeal in person.

and targeting issues important to them.

Obama has the right values - why is he not trying to do quality outreach to women voters?

15. By the time the data comes out, votes will be lost
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the candidate who reaches out to women voters in a quality way will do better than the one who doesn't.

Are you saying Obama's campaign would rather wait until they lose these voters to McCain before they will try to win them back? Or is he willing to write them off altogether?

Which is it?

Still using that "are you saying" cadge to prevail in toon arguments? Let me tell you what you're saying, then.

You say women progressives are dumb enough to vote hard reactionary (not Nader, not Green) if McCain merely makes pleasant noises at them. So, cut the crap and just start a WIMMEN R TEH STOOPID thread, since you're hanging on to that notion as dearly as your last five bucks.

Hah, I got locked out while posting. My bent imagination says you crawled up the phone line and sabotaged the servers.

You did know the primaries were over right? Hillary lost. You can continue to post here daily about how the Obama campaign and Democrats aren't working hard enough for the women's vote. Problem is, you are talking only to yourself at this point. Your posts are eerily similar to Hannity's nightly pastorbating weeks after anyone gave a frogs fat ass.

Trust me, there is no outreach that will suffice for this one. She seems to be itching for a TS. I think the former Clintonites here have decided to go out in a blaze of glory? Maybe there's seventy virgins waiting for them somewhere? Who the hell knows?

What really has Ozark riled up now is the fact that women, despite her doom & gloom predictions, are moving to Obama. This is the last thing she wanted. The only group of women that McCain seems to be performing well with is white suburban married women, these are the infamous "security moms", who voted for Bush over Kerry.

McCain's health care proposal ELIMINATES the tax write off for companies who pay for any amount of health insurance for employees which means that many companies will STOP providing health care benefits to employees.

McCain opposed increasing the minimum wage.

He voted against expanding SCHIP.

McCain has said he would overturn Roe v. Wade.

He supports abstinence only programs.

He is against funding for the distribution of condoms in Africa to prevent the spread os AIDS.

WOW! I can see how you would think McCain is doing such a bang-up job attracting women!

You obviously are doing everything possible to bash Obama. Where the hell is that pizza delivery already?

57. Your opinion, but not the facts.
A Gallup poll taken last Thursday through Monday, as Sen. Hillary Clinton left the race, found Obama beating presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain among women 51-38 percent, up from 48-43 percent a week earlier.

More important, he had opened up a 47-41 percent edge among women over 50, the core of Clintons support. The previous week, McCain had been ahead among them 46-43 percent. Among all voters, Obama led 48-42 percent.
