Embarassment of Riches: A contrast between two Dem Senate hopefuls
Congressman Ben Cardin and former Congressman and former NAACP head Kweisi Mfume are about to face off in the Maryland Democratic primary.

These are two VERY fine men, both of whom started in the Congress in the same freshman class. They're vying for the open seat left by the retiring Paul Sarbanes.

If you have a bit of time, see what you think about them. This WaPo piece seems pretty even handed and reasonably accurate.

I personally favor Mfume, as much for what he can do for the party nationally as what he will do for Maryland. But I will be damned near as happy if Cardin gets it.

1. I'd almost have to flip a coin on this one.
You're correct. Both are fine people. This is an embarassment of riches.

2. I am very much partial to Kweisi - I have admired him for so many years.
I could listen to him talk for hours.

Lucky Maryland, to have so many good Dems.

3. Me too ....... if any liberal wants a 'my guy', he's the guy ......
..... I moved to Maryland while he was still on City Council. He also had a talk show on teevee (and I think radio before that). I had the honor of voting for him when ran for Congress. I was sad and cheered both when he took the NAACP job.

As the WaPo article sez, he'll be an instant celebrity when he goes to the Senate. And, since you've heard him you can appreciate this, he'll be a real go-to guy for the media. A real A-list guest for the yakkers.

He's a lefty's lefty. Incredibly articulate. Very fast thinker and a great debater. Compelling personal story (dead-end gang banger to local activist to US Congressman) ...............

I get carried away! :)
