Is anyone else feeling optimistic?
I was pretty down last August, but I've been feeling better and better about the way things are going for Kerry. It didn't hurt to see him in person at a great campaign rally. I don't think the election is going to be close anymore, I think it might be a landslide for Kerry.

2. Things are looking good, but
it's no time for us to get complacent!

There are still undecided voters and there are potential Kerry voters who need to be motivated to go vote!

Let's keep working! One week to go!!!

27. I think one of the reasons I feel good is that
people have been working hard. I've been canvased twice by pro-Kerry people in the last week. Plus there are significantly more TV and radio ads for Kerry (or anti-Bush) then there are for Bush here in northeast Wisconsin. Lots of Kerry yard signs, more than Bush. And this is traditionally a very Republican area.

7. After reading all the problems with GOP fraud as in Florida and
Ohio, it is hard to be optimistic. We cannot let them steal another election; we owe it to the world.

It will be so much more fulfilling when the sad little chimpy supporters are whimpering at home while we are at victory celebrations.

10. Feeling quite optimistic, but still nervous
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 08:10 PM by mvd
I like the early voting numbers. We seem energized. It's also nice to be ahead in a couple national polls. I trust the ARG state polls and what I've heard from internal polling, as Zogby isn't a great state pollster and Rasmussen hasn't earned any respect yet.

If the Zogby national numbers get better, I won't feel as nervous. However, I really don't think the pollsters know what's going on yet.

14. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm feeling down and worried today
It's pouring rain outside, so that doesn't help. I'm more scared than I've ever been about the election. My God, you'd think we were back in August, or something. I guess the reality that this thing is going to happen in a week, and I wanted Kerry to be 10 points ahead. I didn't want to come to the conclusion that half this country is made up of bleating sheep, but I guess I have to deal with it.

I'm guess I'm so used to feeling like a pinata every two to four years, that I'm like a puppy that's been kicked.

Cheer me up, somebody...

11. Only massive voter fraud can stop us
If Gore was up 500k and "lost," Kerry may need to win by at least a million votes. With over 60 million watching the * meltdown in the first debate, I think we can do it.

I was also very worried in Aug. after that swift vet crap. I think Kerry has more than recovered. I saw him in STL after the 2nd debate and he was amazing. He has a lot of support here.

P.S. When you saw him, where there pro-lifers protesting outside?

21. Not many protesters at all
It was outside in the cold and rain here in northest Wisconsin. There were over 10,000 people here and Kerry was positively electric. There had been maybe 50 protesters that had been following him around the state. Zero impact from the protesters. I did see one anti-abortion protester, he was a bit of a kook with all these gross posters.

16. I have to be honest here... I'm not sure the conventional wisdom...
that the undecideds will break for the challenger will hold in this election.

For whatever reason, Kerry doesn't seem to be liked on a personal level. And I think that is usually the deciding factor for people who can't choose on the issues.

He's a modest person, and modest people appreciate him, in places where the men are pink-cheeked and the women are laconic with phone pollsters.

38. John Kerry vs John F. Kennedy in 1960
I wonder how the perception of John Kerry against Bush compares with the perception of Jack Kennedy in 1960 election against Nixon. Kennedy won the 1960 election by a VERY close margin so he too clearly wasn't universally hailed was he?

So, while the next 8 days may be excruciating for some, I welcome them because they will work in Kerry's favor. IMHO of course.

30. coldhearted truth
predicts zogby and rasmussen "will meet in the middle tomorrow and show Bush with 1 or 2 point lead. ABC WP will show same result Wednesday or Thursday". I am fairly new and I check lots of sites. Is this good news or bad news or just a false assumption???

36. Welcome to DU
You have to be kind of careful about reading the national polls. They don't mean much. The state polls, specifically from the battleground states, are much more important. Buch seems to have reached a ceiling of about 48%, with undecideds tending to break for the challenger. Also be aware that many newly registered voters are not being polled. There is tremendous energy out there to oust Bush and that is being shown with the new voters.
