We just had our first meeting of the Louisville Pink Pistols
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 12:21 AM by alwynsw
We had a pretty good turnout for a first meeting. There were a total of 16 people who came. Most were members and their partners. Mrs. alwynsw and I accounted for half of the straight folks in attendance. We all piled into a local sammich shop for a meet and greet.

On the whole, it's a Kerry crowd. That was refreshing. Of course when you add gays rights to RKBA you generaly get a lefty bunch.

We're having our next meeting at one of the indoor ranges in Louisville. If anyone is near enough to Louisville, KY to attend a meeting, PM me. It will likely be after the first of the year because most of us are pretty busy with the election, then the holidays start occupying time.

Since I'm kinda sorta the default leader of the pack, I'd appreciate any suggestions to keep the meetings upbeat and moving along.

on edit: IT was actually in late September, but I've been traveling a bit and hinesty can't remember if I posted a notice in the Gungeon before I hit the road or not. Therefore it's "new" news unless I'm starting to slip.

2. awesome!
One suggestion is to maybe get a couple of people together who would testify at the OH legislature on firearms bills you support or oppose. It's a good way to put a face behind the voice.

Another is to keep members updated on current events through a listserve of some sort.

3. funny ...
"Mrs. alwynsw and I ..."

... you don't look gay.

"Since I'm kinda sorta the default leader of the pack, ..."

Yeah, I remember back in 1969 when the first public women's liberation group meeting in my home town ended up electing my high school French teacher's husband as "chairman" of the meeting.

In this century, a women's group that did such a thing would be laughed out of town.

Allow me to snicker.

18. free counties
Those are mostly things of the past up here, those "county" things. We have "judicial districts", and "regional municipalities", and things like that these days. And where we used to have comtés (literally, "counties" in French) and "ridings" for electoral purposes, we now have things called "electoral districts". Ah, bureaucracy; ain't it great.

"It's a (partially) free count<r>y up there."

Been to a free speech zone down there lately? I'll be sure to let you know when I encounter one up here.

Of course, the way things are going, "up here" might be the only free speech zone you have left before long ...

4. Good job.
The turnout at our orientation and training sessions kind of ebbs and flows from month to month. We've had as many as 25 and as few as three from month to month. But I guess that's normal for most informal groups.

We do the orientation at my house where we can lay several types of guns on the table and go over the 4 rules. Everyone gets familiar with handling a gun safely, how to clear a gun and understanding that it isn't like Hollywood.

After you've shown them the 4 rules and get them on the range for a session they start having fun. Our groups have really brought a lot of their gay (and straight friends) in for the next month.

After that they start going to the range on their own. I've had a few that wanted to move on to long guns so we found a nice free outdoor rifle range to use in Indiana.

<sarcasm on>
Too bad they are not really gay and are all just puppets for a far right wing group of idealogues though, huh?
<sarcasm off>

(Last Spring, when the whole PP issues was rampant here for a while, I printed and posted comments from some of our less courteous members. The groups got a good laugh out of the close minded commentary. If you can find some of those threads they are a real hoot for the PP members who are always surprised to find they aren't really gay after all!)

Steve,

Glad to get the additional intel on the meeting :)

I still have some ear protection for your group, but not sure I'll be able to make a meeting until maybe the 1st of the year (things here have been insane, car broke down, gotta replace the serpentine belt and PROBABLY the alternator, gotta fly to Korea Sunday to pick up may partner's 86 y.o. mother and bring her back, who's wheelchair bound).

And them's just the highlights ;)

I won't be back until like the 4th, but give me a buzz sometime, we've gotta talk KY folk soon ;)

<sarcasm on>
(P.S. just remember I'm not REALLY a lesbian, but I'm female and doing moderate vehicle repair AND I'm traveling over 1/2 way `round the world to bring back my mother-not-in-law .... but then I AM planning on cooking alot... so.... ;) <sarcasm OFF>

I refer to the first line of the above post, which appears to address the author of the opening post by his given name.

Funny, I'd never noticed him posting that info here.

Given this fact, and the content of the post, I might ask whether someone has never heard of email.

Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 06:24 PM by iverglas

"Do you have a link to an authoritative source to answer that question?"

... that would be hard to do, in the form of a clickable link, when the authors of the proof have expunged it from the cyber record ...

I mean, that's how I understand it.

Gosh, who did found the Pink Pistols, anyhow?

And gosh, given that the Pink Pistols have endorsed a candidate opposing John Kerry in the presidential election, and that said candidate is the person said to have founded the Pink Pistols -- who the fuck cares??

(Especially since the votes that said candidate is blatantly attempting to suck up, by advertising his commitment to such things as reproductive rights and same-sex marriage and downplaying his opposition to, oh, public schools and medicaid, to the point of invisibility, are votes that might reasonably be expected to be sucked away from Kerry and not from Bush.)

Pink Pistols endorse Libertarian candidate

Pink Pistols says that it was founded by Douglas L. Krick ... and -- quelle surprise! -- gives him what appears to be a perennial endorsement:

http://www.pinkpistols.org/answers2001/answers.html

Douglas L. Krick, State Representative, Libertarian -- 100% (A+)
I mean, given that Pink Pistols R him and he is Pink Pistols ("For complete disclosure, I helped design this quiz. I am also the founder of the Pink Pistols").

According to WorldNetDaily,

Badnarik is in favor of same-sex marriage, saying, "The government shouldn't be in the business of licensing marriage, or of excluding anyone from it. That came about as a means of preventing interracial marriage – racism imposed by government.
Regarding the bit to which I have added emphasis ... are people this ethnocentric and ignorant of history actually elected to political office very often? State licensing of marriage "came about as a means of preventing interracial marriage" ... uh huh.

Oh look, Krick supported the bid to hold the The 62nd World Science Fiction Convention in Boston ...
http://www.mcfi.org/b2004/presupport.html

It's loonytarian time, it's loonytarian time ...

And it all really comes down to: who the fuck cares?

I didn't buy Roy Innis
http://www.nrawinningteam.com/bios99/innis.html
as an African-American acting in the interests of any African-American but himself, and I don't buy Douglas Krick or any of his playmates as acting in the interests of any gay, lesbian or bisexual (or any other description) individual or group but themselves.

Corruption comes in every colour of the rainbow.

Oops. I selected "Lobbying to Liberals" from the pull-down menu at pinkpistols.org, and said "Go!", and I got sent to that there url, and I got told:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Hmmmmmmm.

But a little googling for northbridgetraining comes up with a lot of stuff by [email protected] ... hmm, David Rostcheck.

And there's far too much crap out there about him and his apparently defunct but very ILliberal North Bridge Training Institute for me to want to cherrypick it for anyone else. Google away!

33. An Interesting Item From Wikipedia
The Pink Pistols are a gay gun rights organization in the United States. Their mottos are "Armed Gays Don't Get Bashed" and "Pick on someone your own caliber". There are now 40 Pink Pistols chapters that are principally made up of gun owning homosexuals, though neither condition is mandatory for membership. Their symbol consists of an overhead view of a picto-person in an isoceles stance aiming a handgun over a pink triangular background, the latter referring to the symbol gays were forced to wear in the Nazi concentration camps.

This is unusual in that, in general, firearm owners and gays tend to generally have diametrically opposed political outlooks, though there is nothing within either of the two single issues that is mutually exclusive in theory. Their activities involve firing range visits and political activism. Additionally, the group occaisonally produces report cards on politicians based on their stand on issues of interest to members.

Some critics have accused Pink Pistols of being far more interested in the gun side of their platform, with sexuality only an afterthought to get attention for what is essentially just an atypical libertarian group.

34. And Something From the Libertarian Party Web Site
Founder of Pink Pistols gun group becomes a Libertarian Party member

A founding member of the Pink Pistols -- a gun-owners organization composed mostly of "sexual minority community" members -- has defected from the Green Party and joined the Libertarian Party.

David Rostcheck, who became a member on August 22, said he joined because the LP is the only political party opposed to the "illegal expansion of government power."

"No party that cannot name and oppose the erosion of Constitutional law will ever be able to stop this erosion," he said. "Only the Libertarians have the courage and clarity to name the enemy and stand firmly against it."

Rostcheck had helped launch the Pink Pistols in September 2000. The organization, which views the Second Amendment as crucial to the freedom of minority citizens, now has 27 chapters nationwide.

Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine

Quiet thought come floating down
And settle softly to the ground
Like golden autumn leaves around my feet
I touched them and they burst apart with sweet memories,
Sweet memories

Of holding hands and red bouquets
And twilight trimmed in purple haze
And laughing eyes and simple ways
And quiet nights and gentle days with you

Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine,
Memories, memories, sweet memories

35. ah so
"On the whole, it's a Kerry crowd."

So ... what action will your new group be taking about the national organization to which you belong endorsing an opposing candidate for president?

Jeez ... he founds the organization, he writes the questionnaire, he gets a perfect score and he gets the endorsement. Who needs a membership to vote on things??

And yet ...

The year 2004 questionnaire for all candidates and holders of public office
The candidate's scores and answers for the years 2004
http://www.pinkpistols.com/answers2004/answers.html
"None received to date"
Hmmmmmmm.

And yet ...

http://www.pinkpistols.org/index2.html

... the rolling scoreboard up at the top lists numerous endorsements ... all of them loonytarians, to a man. (Yup, to a man -- I counted 16 endorsed candidates, all of them men, to a man.)

Wouldn't ya think that a group that actually wanted to influence public policy might do something, when it came to attempting to influence people's votes, that might actually influence public policy?

Hmm ... maybe that's exactly what it's doing ...

1. Congrats on getting the chapter up and running.

2. I think this topic has run its DU course.

3. The group supports a candidate for President that is NOT John Kerry.

4. If there is concrete evidence the group supports Kerry then we'll have some Pink Pistol threads, without it, I don't see how this supports DU's mission of unselecting Bush*.
