Report in: Did "Kurds Caught Saddam" Make Your Morning Paper?
As I explained in a previous post, Orange Alert (complete with a photo of the Duct Tape King, which is enough to put one off his or her breakfast) made the front page, Kurds Catch Saddam didn't get in there at all.

Did the Kurds make your paper? "Yes" or "No" along with name and hometown of paper is sufficient.

Syracuse Post Standard, but the orange "alert" did as well poll results chirping about chimp's rising "approval" numbers on the economy. I think we really are becoming like the old Soviet Union with it's controlled Pravda press. Lie after lie and they are NEVER exposed. The diversion seems to be working.

20. Lying out in the open; you're right, dusty 64
I've never seen so much brazeness and corruption. This administration is so sure of its' following that it now dares to lie about the obvious. They know the media will not call them on it, and half the country will ignore it. If George Bush shot his mother on the White House lawn (with full press coverage), Freepers would think of a valid rationale for it. As one Russian said recently, " In Russia, we KNEW it was propaganda".

Jay Bookman of the AJC did respond quickly. His entire email:

"because we don't believe it to be true."

Another email from him said in part that while right-wing press will easily sell fraudulent stories, "we" must play by stricter rules.

He is really very accessable. Nice guy also.

did they print ANYthing about Whitewater?

did they believe that crap?

and WHY don't they believe THIS story?

as if that EVER stops a wingnut diatribe from being published.

all the "straight" media do is say that it's been "reported" in the National Gooberschnauzer, and get off the hook that way.

why not email him something to that effect

what a lameass

is this the same guy that refused to print anything about the Georgia BBV fiasco, the conspiracy (ahem) to get Cynthia McKinney?

when they ripen in August. Iraqi dates are harvested in August and early Sept.

An old farm boy knows what happens to ripe fruit if not picked , and that by December, they do not look as nice as the figs in the picture of the farmhouse yard where he was hiding.

Since DRUDGE had it on his website yesterday, the media whores took their "journalism" cue from him. MSRNC's very callow morning anchors, John ELLIOTT and the very SNARKY Allison STEWERT have been reading it as "And what do you think about the report that the Kurds captured Saddam FIRST, drugged him, and left his zip code for the Americans to find?" They haven't actually gone into the story beyond this----what, and do some original reporting?

It took forever for the details of Jessica Lynch's ordeal to emerge. 27. Monitoring AP Audio - Mon AM...Nope...But some good
Lead has been the Chicken-Little Alert and the poll about people's travel plans...as posted above, most are yawning and bleeting.

The one item I did hear that made my ears perk will be the news coming out of retail sales for the xmas season...they're not gonna be good folks and with it so goes the "improved economy". Lower profits will mean more downscaling and outsourcing next year (above what's already on the books) and there's gotta be some nervous stomaches in Roveland about this...this ticking time bomb hasn't been defused.

Didn't have a word about it. Lead story was "US ON HOLIDAY ALERT," and the rest was the usual fellation of the Dopey Administration. The Saginaw News is on a par with the Beobachter Arbeiter, except the Nazis had better graphics.

45. uhhhhhh, how is this a conspiracy theory?
the Kurds either found him, or they didn't

what's so difficult about that?

if you're talking about a conspiracy not to report it, well that just falls in with EVERY OTHER story about the junta that never sees the light of day, or is mentioned once/twice, then down into the memory hole, for lack of an echo chamber the fascist party employs so successfully, of course with the happy and willing cooperation of the media which refuses to report anything inimical to those very same interests

Why would we want our troops to be put on the spot to defend what I am sure was a clean capture and totally removed from the office of the president? Our soldiers are out their risking their lives to bring in the trash and what good could come from a story of the Kurds handing him over?

Why don't we want to believe it happened as reported?

73. Especially since it probably ISN'T
TPM's analysis throws a very dubious light on it. Doesn't say it's categorically bullshit, but says there's going to have to be better evidence than this one story. And that's all there is--the "various" accounts are actually all deriving from one, and it is uncorroborated, from an author with an axe to grind.

61. Globe and Mail - just barely
"Canada's national newspaper" buried the lead by mentioning this in paragraph 15 of and 18 paragraph story. The story started on page one, but by the time the Kurd angle was mentioned it was being continued on page 13. Most of the story was about the bathroom that Hussein is being held in, Chalabi's meeting with him, etc.

This is another way the right wing press manipulates the news.
