Like all his other PR moves, capturing Saddam will backfire on Bush..
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 12:54 PM by TruthIsAll
It's amazing to hear all the knee-jerk, Rovian-fed responses - here at DU and in the media. It's Mission Accomplished, deja vu.

This will help Bush for a short while. The Saddam bogeyman is out of the equation, but:

The Iraq insurgency will continue. The casualties will mount. They hate the Bush occupation more than they hated Saddam. So whay are we still in Iraq. No WMD. No Saddam. No imminent threat.

Oh, I forgot. OIL. And no contract bidding for our former allies.

People who realize this war was NEVER about Saddam will still want to know: How did 9/11 happen? We have captured Saddam, and he will presumably go on trial. But what will happen to Halliburton? What about gas prices? What about health insurance? What about jobs?

We all knew that they would get Saddam eventually. The fact that they did got him now, rather than wait until right before the election, shows how desperate BushCo is to stop the Dean bandwagon before it gathers steam.

It won't work. The people are way ahead of the pundits and the pissant polticians. Being anti-war is still a winner - more than ever.
Because Bush will never be able to provide justification for this fiasco.

2. The trial of Saddam will be long.
I think the trial of Saddam will be at least a few years. Capturing Saddam will only fuel insurgents to fight more.

3. I agree
Holding him and trying him will just give focus for the attacks.
If anything, it is going to ge worse for our guys over there, not better.

4. true, plus
former Ba'athists aren't the only forces on the ground fighting the coalition. The Cheney Administration wants us to believe that it's just all about SH loyalists. IMHO the jockeying by the religious factions will really intensify now.

6. Another attack. 17 dead, many wounded. Within minutes of the Chimp's talk.
Things will get worse every day until Nov. 2004.

7. I've been thinking the same thing all morning. . .
Yeah, real scary guy. Pathetic babbling old man hiding in a "spider" hole in the ground. It was worth 500 dead soilders and $175 Billion to get this guy? Feel safer? He was leading the attacks against US troops? I don't think so. . .

If this war doesn't end by election day finding Saddam just makes it more obvious. Ok, it wasn't about WMD, it wasn't about 9-11, now we've got regime change by getting Saddam why isn't it over? What was it all about?

Don't panic. Bush will get a bump in the polls but there will be more disillusioned people 6 months from now.

11. Some one has already pointed to a contradition.
The party line has been that the insurgance was Alkidea, not SH loyalist. So why should this end the figting again? Also, the BBC release the fact that the US is reactivating Saddams secrit police to go after the insurgence. Things are going to get a lot worse, not better.

13. Have to hope you are right about this.

I'm curious to know the plan to turn SH over to
international custody. SH has to know stuff about
the Boy King and family that nobody wants told.

15. Thank gawd Saddam is "captured." Now let's focus on Osama.
Right, bush? Right?

I hope all the candidates go after bush with everything they've got until we Americans learn the truth of what bush knew and when he knew it, and why the hell he did nothing about it until it was too late.

:grr:

17. Reminds me of when they toppled the statue...
This changes nothing.

This war was still bullshit and doesn't help the USA one tiny goddamned bit.
