I swear I'm not making this up. Dubya latched onto the arm of the guy next to him. I don't have the link anymore, but the image was posted here at DU after it happened -- probably in 2002, maybe in 2003.

I couldn't find the larger version but I found this one which is close. Everytime I look at that picture it reminds me of the pictures I've seen from Disney. (I think it's Cinderella's Castle in Disney World.)

Talk about phoney and staged... but to top it all off he couldn't even button his shirt right.

As far as I know, the joker came from the White House. The Made in U.S.A. 'boxes' were on the backdrop. The actual boxes placed in the foreground had the 'Made in China' labels covered with tape.

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- Someone wanted the right setting Wednesday as President Bush traveled to the Midwest to deliver another pitch for his economic plan.

When the president delivered his remarks, he did so from the floor of a warehouse with American flags in the background along with the logo "Strengthening America's Economy" on a backdrop of boxes. The boxes were stamped "Made in U.S.A."

One problem: The boxes were made in China.

And that was evident despite an effort to hide labels on boxes surrounding the stage. The boxes placed on the side of the stage had "Made in China" labels covered up with white pieces of paper.

"This was the work of an overzealous advance volunteer," said White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan. "It's being taken up with the appropriate people."

Of course, American workers were used to set up the display behind George W. Bush. Only, it didn't take as much work as it might appear. Here's where Bush's snow job intensified. You see, those boxes that seem to be stacked up to the ceiling behind bush aren't really boxes at all. They're made up, painted carefully on a canvas that appears to be real when photographed or viewed on television.

Of course, stacked all around Bush were real boxes, with the words "Made in U.S.A." stamped on them, just like in the fake painted boxes behind him. One would think that there must have been some truth to the image Bush's PR people created for him that day. Sadly, it's with these boxes that Bush's snow job turned into a blizzard.

After Bush gave his speech, a curious reporter wondered why there was extra tape around the areas that were stamped "Made in U.S.A." and peeled the tape back to see what lay beneath. The reporter found the words "Made in China". That's right, in order to make George W. look good, a team of people working for the White House printed up special stickers to make the President's speech seem patriotic by covering up the fact that the boxes all around him were full of products made in China, not in America.

At first, White House spokespeople denied that they were involved in the fraud. Later, they admitted that the fake labels were put on the boxes on purpose, in order to make George W. look good.>snip<
