I believe Karl Rove is deficating construction ingots
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 12:41 PM by Walt Starr
This Shiavo fiasco was dreamed up by two Republicans and two only. Number one on this was Tom DeLay (R- Ethics problems). The other Republican who dreamed up this fiasco was Bill Frist (R - Presidential Wannabe).

10,000,000 : 1, Karl Rove was never consulted or he would have told them to shove the weekend last minute deal where the sun don't shine! He's smart enough to know that the best case scenario was to let the "subpoena maneuver" be the token expression from the Republicans and point to Democratic obstructionism as the reason why Terri died. This methodology becomes win-win for the Republicans. The American public has been conditioned to be reviled at a nanny government controlling every aspect of life from cradle to grave because Rove did most of the conditioning of the American Public to have that response!

But DeLay is terrified of the ethics charges because he knows damn well and good he's in serious trouble, so he's using this as a way to attack back and say, "these ethics violation charges are a smear campaign by the pro-death movement." Unfortunately for that stupid strategy, the ethics violations came out long before he attempted his politcal pandering of the religious reich.

Bill Frist, on the other hand, saw an opportunity to get his name in national news tied to an issue he saw as a basic for the base of the Republican Party. What he missed was that everybody else would think it's horrid, thus devestating any chance of him ever becoming president of these United States.

This was a debacle by the Republican Party which goes to show, take Rove out of the equation and the Republicans show their moronic colors. Rove knew damn well and good that he was forced into a corner and Bush had to get back to sign whatever legislation he was given. The best he can hope for is to distance Bush from the ramifications of the center being pissed off at the Republican Party in general and George Bush in specifics because Bush had no choice but to sign the bill. Rove's position once DeLay decided to push it was untenable.

Watch for Tom DeLay to be thrown overboard in the next three weeks. They will let the sharks feast because DeLay screwed the pooch and messed up big time. Frist will be in hot water for some time to come.

11. I saw the Bush administration demonstrating a willingness to expend
political capital on DeLay, but I don't think they were willing to expend as much political capital as this thing is going to cost them.

That's gotta smart. :D

On edit: Considering your last premises: Perhaps, but remember: this is The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight. It seems that, amongst them, screwing up only makes you more popular and advances your career.

5. True
Good point. Rove is involved in everything. I'm sure he had a nice chat with Jeb about this because shortly after DeLay and Frist got involved he was too. I do think though they used this to help DeLay and Frist mainly since they've been the one's in the spotlight with this whole disaster. Remember the whole memo sent out talking about this?

6. If I'm wrong, they'll continue to back DeLay
If I'm right, further revelations will come out and DeLay will be gone.

4. Makes sense but
I'm surprised that Rove had Bush* come running back to sign the legislation.....he could have "derailed" the whole thing by having them fly the resolution to Crawford...hence signaling that Bush was displeased with their efforts....

also....and this is a biggie.....

Rep Dave Obey from Wisconsin has been suggesting for some time that Bush can't control the yahoos in the House of Representatives. Maybe this is proof that neither Bush nor Rove have control over these idiots.....

8. Something I wonder
Just because Bush can't control them maybe Rove can? All of them know what he can do I'm sure if they don't fall link and step. And good point about Bush running back. But then again if he didn't they would think he didn't care as much and they used this to appeal to the fundies even more.

9. The position was untenable is why
Bush ahs not thrown red meat to the Religiosly Insane, so he had no choice but to sign and give all appearnaces that he would d the right thing.

Nope, I'm positive Rove wanted this dead in congress and not touching bush at all.

7. actually, I think this was a good idea for Frist
that 19 or so % that DOESN'T think the political grandstanding was a bad idea -- those are all republican primary voters. It will hurt him if he gets the nomination, but he's got to get the nomination first.

12. I doubt it--this is giving Karl everything he needs
plus his fingerprints are off the documents.

Mark me, this issue is destroying the Dems and they are helpless to oppose it, even if they were inclined (which, apparently, they are not.)

13. This costs a lot, and yeilds so little.

I cannot imagine that Rove was behind it.
Frankly, the only way he could be, is if the
admin needs a covering story even at the expense of
soiling congress with this hideously divisive ploy.

I agree that it seems like Tom DeLay's game, with Frist going for the attention. He did, however, in the process give us the ultimate Anti Frist commercial--

<SPOT -- Billy makes a diagnosis>

<Picture of editing board with the Shiavo tape on it.>

VO- Billy Frist felt able to make a life or death
diagnosis of Terri Shiavo based on an edited videotape, never having seen the patient.

<Picture of an unemployed worker with a sign>

It this how he plans to diagnose the economy?

<Jump to Picture of Iraqi IED going off>

Iraq?

<Jump cut-- picture of American soldier with prosthesis.>

The disabled?
<Jump cut Split Screen-- picture of ivy league graduation/young men in prison>

The two Americas...

Billy Frist has a diagnosis for your problems. You make and keep too much money that his friends have plans for.

<END SPOT>

getting involved in this very private matter...it touches too close to home for many...
