Thatcher coup plot: Mandelson, CIA & State Department named
From Channel 4 News, UK, reported 7.45pm London time:

In an interview tonight with Channel 4's Sue Turton, Equitorial Guinea's Attorney General Jose Ole Obono tonight named the UK's former Northern Ireland Secretary - now UK European Union Commissioner responsible for trade - Peter Mandelson as knowing about the involvement of Sir Mark Thatcher in financing the plot to oust President Obiang.

Obono also told Channel 4 News that "the CIA and the State Department" were also aware of the situation which led to Simon Mann being jailed for 7 years and which sees Thatcher charged with financing and logistical planning if the coup.

No internet links to this story as yet which only went on air half an hour ago in the UK.

However, Obono's statement confirms what the Scotsman newspaper reported in August:

Affair throws up 'rogues gallery'

MARK Thatcher, Jeffrey Archer, Peter Mandelson - the list of names associated in some way in the tale of the alleged coup plot in Equatorial Guinea reads like a rogues gallery of public figures the public loves to hate.

Mr Mandelson probably has the least to worry about. His involvement is peripheral at best, though it does have echoes of his past mishaps.

The man who lost his place in the Cabinet in 1998 for failing to disclose that he used a loan from fellow minister Geoffrey Robinson to buy a flat in Notting Hill, London, turns out to have rented a £500,000 one-bedroom flat in nearby Holland Park from one Eli Calil, who is being sued for allegedly helping to fund the coup attempt.

The new Brussels trade commissioner has refused to talk about his relationship with Mr Calil, other than to say that he paid the proper rent personally for the flat and that he has no knowledge of any coup plot.

1. Let's not forget Mark Thatcher was preparing to move his family to TEXAS.
No doubt BushInc. is completely involved. Where there is oil, BushInc. is there to steal it one way or another.

4. Some weeks ago the BBC World Service Radio broadcast

interview with an Africa business journalist who said that over £10 million in Channel Islands bank accounts were held by Thatcher's wife Diance and that the money had been earned by her husband between 1997 and 2000 as consultancy payments from companies "partnered by Jeff Skilling".

Haven't heard any more about this except that a) the companies may have been Enron-related and that 2) the money is held in beneficial trust for the Thatcher children with Diane Thatcher being the sole signatory on the accounts in a deal struck by her Texas lawyers to avoid divorce from her husband.

Exclusive interview
Equatorial Guinea

Published: 12-Oct-2004
By: Sue Turton

Just weeks before he's due to appear in court, Sir Mark Thatcher faces fresh allegations about his role in the alleged coup in Equatorial Guinea.

The attorney general of Equatorial Guinea, Jose Olo Obono, in his first television interview, has claimed to Channel 4 News that he has uncontrovertible evidence that Mark Thatcher was central to the plot.

He also revealed he has asked the British government to mount a investigation, and prosecution if appropriate, into a number of others including Peter Mandelson and the man with the initials JH Archer, who they presume to be Lord Archer. ...................

The Attorney General has now asked for help from the British Government in investigating not just Thatcher but also a man they presume to be Lord Archer and Peter Mandelson, now the EU's trade commissioner.

...the Labor party is probably worried not that Mandelson knew about the plot, but that Mandelson's apartment was bugged and that these fascists know some inside info about the gov't.

I doubt that anybody in the Labor gov't isn't immensely content that these fascists are getting implicated in this plot.
