Colorado GOP's statement on Kerry draws fire

DENVER (AP) - Democrats are furious about a statement by Republicans saying that comparing one of their candidates to presidential candidate John Kerry would be worse than comparing someone to the Ku Klux Klan.

The dispute started when The New York Times inadvertently published a photo of Republican senate candidate Pete Coors above a story about a KKK member who murdered a black sharecropper.

Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, said the error was ``so outrageous it's kind of funny. It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry.''

Here the NYT genuinely treats Coors unfairly and they have a real right to be outraged, and then they blow it by saying the Klan is preferable to Kerry. Way to squander your sympathy fellas!

As poll after polls show Kerry drawing closer to being ahead in Colorado, a state that Bush won in 2000 without breaking a sweat. Polls techincally are placing Kerry at a dead heat with Bush in that state (withn the MoE of the polls) while Bush won Colorado in 2000 by twice the percentage points that now separate him and Kerry. Colorado is on of three states that Bush won handily in 2000 in which Kerry is now giving him a run for his money.

A solid Red state in 2000, Colorado is now seen as only leaning towards Bush.

Pete Coors really does believe that a racist murderer is better than a courageous war hero and public servant like John Kerry.

This statement tells us a whole lot about Pete Coors and the GOP mindset... not that it was anything we didn't already know.

putting on a show of dieversity. Meanwhile they made most of their workforce contract labor, i.e. temps so they don't have to pay them benefits.
