Feds shut Web site in piracy crackdown

MARK SHERMAN

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Federal raiders. Internet pirates. Intergalactic screen adventures. The government announced a crackdown Wednesday on the theft of movies and other copyright materials that has the elements of a film plot.

Federal agents shut down a Web site that they said allowed people to download the new "Star Wars" movie even before it was shown in theaters.

The Elite Torrents site was engaging in high-tech piracy by letting people download copies of movies and other copyright material for free, authorities said.

The action was the first criminal enforcement against individuals who are using cutting-edge BitTorrent software to obtain pirated content online, Justice and Homeland Security Department officials said.

1. Silly hackers, if they'd have hacked voting machines, no one
would have bothered them, hell, they might have made some money on the deal.

7. What are you saying? Pirated software doesn't terrify you?!
Me either. I suppose it would if we were a software giant, though.

10. Whoreland Security hasn't caught a single terrorist but they've busted
Edited on Thu May-26-05 10:02 PM by dArKeR
some kids downloading MP3s, low quality and small screen size movies, and some PDF books. Almost as good as the FBIs 5 years investigation into Florida hookers and arresting 1 girl at the culmination of the 20 agent and untold resources, or whatever it was, investigation

Isn't this Elite Torrents case the same as Tom Delay using Whoreland Security to track down Texas Legislators?
