links to stories that are showing how awful the Republicans are being. We need to use every tool at our disposal to shift public opinion and DU links and sharing of knowledge is how we can take back the country.

Look at it this way: If you want to change the vote of a middle-of-the-road grannie you have to make sure she sees that the Republicans are attacking her personally. Since a lot of us aren't comfortable discussing politics on facebook, etc. then you need to talk politics in a different way. You have to make the older generation who sees your facebook see stories like this:

Republicans: Let's Cut Social Security, Too http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/04/republican-social-security-cuts This article with a note saying, "My grandparents need their social security and medicare to survive!!" is a very powerful message that should scare any senior away from the Republicans.

Then you need the moms on your facebook to see articles like this:

Republicans vs the Children http://capecoddaily.com/blog/rebublicans-vs-the-children/
or : GOP Cuts: A "Guillotine Job" on the Special Olympics http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/03/budget-cuts-special-olympics

We know we can't change the attitudes of some people but what we need to do is make the moms and grandmas in our lives uncomfortable with being part of a group that would cut Special Olympics and medicine for the old or the infirm.

Developmental Disabilities, for instance, know no party. Down syndrome is very prevalent in Mormon circles so you know that when the Mormon mom of a child with Down Syndrome sees Special Olympics getting cut it most likely will make it harder for her to be super supportive of the republicans. It might not change her vote but she sure won't be sending campaign donations to the Republicans.

The same for the older generation. They are the generation with the golden parachute so they have not had to worry about their future as much. When they see their safety net being attacked they too will have trouble supporting the Republicans.

I know not everyone is not up to big political discussions...but a post saying, "Ah, c'mon Republicans, at least leave Special Olympics alone" with a link is a VERY strong message. It is even stronger when you say, "Ah, c'mon Republicans, BofA pays zero taxes on 14 Billion dollars in PROFIT and you are going to kill Special Olympics?"

I have been doing this for the past several months and I have noticed a marked change in how my friends are looking at the issues. Friends who never discussed politics are becoming quite vocal at the inequality. When my conservative friends support cuts the moms have started taking over and chewing them out.

WE, the people of DU who are taking the time to educate ourselves, need to share the best information we find with our friends and family. Nothing else is going to shift the country away from the tea party. Rupert Murdoch has the media, The right wing has the attention, all we have is knowledge.

Knowledge is worthless if you don't share it.
