After 911, I was part of a Denver contingent that made ourselves available to area Muslims--especially women-- to escort them or to come if needed, should they encounter problems. After a few months, we got less and less requests for escorts and pretty much ceased. Ironically, I've heard that some of the original group have discussed whether they need to reorganize-- to address an escalation in anti-Muslim attitudes the past year or so-- particularly after the (manufactured) NYC mosque controversy. And, I think Denver is generally tolerant compared to some cities.

I should not be surprised, but this depresses me.
