They're simply marginalized these days. If we rewrote the constitution it would not be our best political and philosophical minds writing it. It would be the capitalist elite, who collectively have about as much capacity for intellectual deliberation as does my elbow.

We would be better off with outright revolution.


Edit - oh, and they're marginalized largely because of the longstanding propaganda war against intellectualism. Because being educated and working as a scholar makes one a snobby elite, whereas being dumber than fuck and proud of it is authentic.

I have taken to promptly ridiculing anyone who promotes the stupidity=authenticity theme. Zero tolerance. Ripped into a friend for it yesterday and you'd have thought I stomped on his puppy.

Long time ago an older conservative man told me that he thought the intellectual liberal elite wanted to literally disenfranchise old-fashioned country bumpkins like him. I asked him, just to make sure I wasn't misunderunderstanding, if he really thought liberal academics wanted to keep him from voting, and he said yes, absolutely.
