211. SC and OK Law suits limits using ALEC model $350K or X3 actual damage - No punitive...
... damages, cause that might stop the company from say, DOING IT AGAIN and screwing up more lives.

Group's model bill at heart of SC lawsuit limits

South Carolina lawmakers are using language crafted by a conservative interest group as a model for legislation aimed at limiting lawsuits. Senators will resume debate Tuesday on a bill that limits most punitive damage awards to $350,000 or up to three times what a jury or judge awards for actual damages.

The legislation is based on a model created by the American Legislative Exchange Council. The conservative, business-funded group's lawsuit limits are also being debated in Tennessee, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed a lawsuit limit bill last week.

The SC House story before that one above:
A Republican push to change how liability lawsuits against companies and doctors are handled was panned by consumer advocates and praised by business backers at a state House committee meeting Thursday.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, said the limits "will improve our standing among business groups all over the country."
(break)
House Majority Leader Kenny Bingham, a West Columbia Republican, said, "We want a pro-business state."

Our governor wants our ranking up too, but with all the same laws going in, how does that help? (snark)

Rats no 'verified' ALEC members listed in stories for the collection. Just add Harrell and Bingham to 'suspected'.

Uh-oh the *AP* did this one. My goodness....
