when it comes down to it... only a union job give the employee a small sense that he is protected under contract and that a company just can't "relieve" you of your job at their whim.
I plan to do exactly as you stated. I am a very skilled woodworker with years of experience. I have no doubt that I will be liked and appreciated in this new endeavor and be permanently hired in a few months.
You are correct, when a company uses a staffing service for permanent hires.... they do have a high turn over problem. I was constantly retraining new hires in my department.
But the job got done and done well. I did complain to both my staffing company and the owners of the company that I used the service. Nobody ever took the complaints seriously. They ALWAYS said it was someone else was responsible.
When I left... I burned my bridge with that company. I told them the truth. The would never be able to keep anyone of value because of their policy of using a staffing agency to supply their workers. The thing is many of the employees were ex convicts and this was basically the only place that would hire them. Many were very good workers trying to stay on the straight and narrow.
To keep employees for the long term I told the owner that he had to hire a core group into the company.
He said that is in the works but as of today...nearly 4 years later ...they haven't done so.
