This just in...

Mark Halperin, co-author of "Game Change," stated this morning on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that President Obama "is not afraid to lose re-election over entitlement reform." He predicted, based on his pipeline to the WH, that the President will in fact tackle Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security as part of the so-called "grand bargain" that he apparently still wants to forge with Republicans. Joe Scarborough was clearly skeptical about Halperin's claim, saying that he sees no evidence of Obama's "leadership" on entitlement reform, which Scarborough defines as benefit reductions. But he also acknowledged that Halperin has much better WH sources. When pressed, Halperin said that he expects the WH to move on entitlements in March -- unless House Repubs, especially Paul Ryan, also "punt" (today's favorite sports metaphor on the budget) on entitlements.
