Things the taxpayers of Detroit have been paying for for decades and people of Detroit have donated to members of the public of Detroit are up for grabs. And you know, whatever the price, it will not be a remotely fair one.

How the hell does he even get authority to do that? He got authority to run Detroit. That does not mean he now owns everything that belongs to the citizenry of Detroit.

Make someone a manager of, say, a privately owned factory and he or she would be jailed if she or she tried to sell off so much as a desk that belonged to the factory owner without the express consent of the owner.

And Snyder does not have the right to authorize anyone to sell the factory owner's desk, either. Snyder cannot authorize the manager to do what Snyer has no power himself to do. I'm not even sure that a majority vote of the public can give that authorization.

For example, artworks donated to the museum. Would the donors ever have donated them in the first place, knowing they might end up in private hands, instead of enjoyed in perpetuity by the citizens of Detroit and visitors to Detroit?

In fact, I bet, if one were to look at the paperwork transferring title to those artworks, they would find that most or all of the title documents use the words "in perpetuity" or words that mean the same thing. Therefore, whatever title the city manager might purport to convey would be defective.
