To Texas goes American textbooks, including history.

K through 12,anyway.

It's the largest single purchaser of school textbooks, so it can dictate to textbook publishers. Once Texas is happy, they peddle the books to other U.S. locations.

Wouldn'cha think it would have occurred to someone else by now to invest some money in some textbooks, at least the history textbooks, in order to have a say on what most school children of the United States read? Recycle the extras, or better yet, tell the publishers to print less--you'll pay more per book.

But no, we've quietly let Texas decide for years what school textbooks will and will not say and how they will say it.

How shrewd.

Texas, the T in my acronym, "FAT" (Florida, Arizona, Texas). Because, with my apologies to everyone in those states, it seems to me that most of the things on DU that leave me blinking have come out of one or more of those states. I could be totally wrong, but that is just how it feels to me.

Anyway, Texas.
