But many of us here take that as a 'given.' We share your objections and your outrage about the wars and the carnage.
The point is that ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT, one final insult, one final indignity, is inflicted on the fallen--and on their families and on all who cared for them and on all who care about them.
We like to think of the fallen as finally being at peace when they're gone. After we inter them solemnly and respectfully, we are relieved that we have 'closure,' that, sadly, it's over and done. We don't expect to hear later that parts of them have been dumped in the trash.
I don't think you have to be a vet to understand our reaction. I lost more than 60 guys I knew in Vietnam, including one roommate who was a Medal of Honor recipient (posthumous). If this had happened to any of them, I would be outraged, and it would be an outrage quite apart from and in addition to my outrage about the war. And many non-vets would be as outraged as I.
The kicker is that just when you think it's over and done...it's not. Even in death, there is one final insult...
