I think the op is flamebait - as the idea that Hillary is the conscience of the country could not help to get the replies it did. I do think the attacks, which even the op had to predict, were over the top.

I am not sure, who, if anyone could be the conscience of the country, but I would bet on a writer or possibly musician - not a politician. Even the best politician would make decisions that include if it is good for her/him or their party. In addition, when governing, it is possible that what is best for the country might not be what is morally right. I suspect that the closer you get to power, the harder it is to be the conscience.

To the op, have you considered how you would react if HRC were replaced by another politician you are less committed to.
