New push by house GOP leaders to rename the US Capitol, Reagan, D.C. Senior Republican leaders are citing the authority established in Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, which states that Congress shall have the power: To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States. The phrase "exclusive legislation in all Cases whatsoever" has been interpreted to mean that Congress has complete authority over the District, thereby limiting local self government by the city's residents.
The GAO has estimated the cost to replace Washington with Reagan on government documents, city signs, and in other areas will be in excess of $900 Billion. This $900 Billion will be offset by cuts to social programs and a generous donation of $100 Million sponsorship campaign by McDonald's Corporation. The full name will be Reagan, D.C. sponsored by McDonald's.
