It's not the United States of Texas but neither is it the United States of California or Massachusetts or Maryland. It's closer to, well...the United States of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Why do you think Fox News' ratings are what they are? Forget the emotion for a second...take a Xanax, relax and look at the numbers and our history and our political culture. If you do that, you'll have the answers. This is all fairly straightforward.

Did you know the healthcare bill we got had its roots in Newt Gingrich's Republican House? Most people don't know that and God Forbid none of today's party leadership on either side wants us to know it now. Why do you think Romney supported it in Massachusetts?

My wife and I live in northern California and the big fear now is of the state becoming an island, politically and economically. This state never recovered from the base closings after the Cold War. The real estate boom masked it for awhile but we knew that would go away and it did.
