Maine GOP contracts former phone jammer for No on 1 flyers

Blogger Will Fessenden recently noted that the Maine Republican Party’s ballot question committee opposing the restoration of Election Day voter registration had contracted a New Hampshire company, Spectrum Marketing, to print campaign flyers.

Also of interest is that the firm is run by Chuck McGee, the former executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party who was convicted in 2005 for a 2002 phone jamming scheme during the U.S. Senate election between Democrat Jeanne Shaheen and John Sununu (junior).

McGee served seven months in prison for hiring a Virginia firm to jam the phone banks of Democratic volunteers working to get out the vote on Shaheen’s behalf. He was one of four people convicted in the case, which made national headlines.

According to news reports at the time of his sentencing, McGee was fined $2,000 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
