  - IMO the key sentence is this one..  Bandit   Oct-05-11 11:48 AM   #13
  - I'm still convinced that there is a good reason why you didn't/can't source the claim.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:02 PM   #23
  - Source your claim.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 12:04 PM   #27
     - Burden of proof is on you.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:05 PM   #31

                             - There's no option C.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:26 PM   #54
  - Who cares if Lincoln or the Man in the Moon said it? It's TRUE  NYC Liberal   Oct-05-11 12:04 PM   #28
  - And there's my point. Average Joe circa 1862 could have said it, it's about the longevity of it.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 01:03 PM   #67
     - Actually, Sir, It is the Appeal To Authority In the Mis-Attribution That Was the Point  The Magistrate   Oct-05-11 02:05 PM   #69
     - Exactly. Unless the author would change the meaning, it doesn't matter.  NYC Liberal   Oct-05-11 02:59 PM   #70
  - Sorry, Sir: Mr.Lincoln Never Said Nor Wrote This  The Magistrate   Oct-05-11 12:05 PM   #29
     - Oh well. If Lincoln never said it then I guess it's meaningless and should be disregarded.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 12:08 PM   #36
        - No one said that.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:10 PM   #39
        - Sure, kill the messenger. Suddenly I'M the revisionist. It's all my fault. I can't go on living.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 12:11 PM   #41
           - I'm starting to think that  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:13 PM   #43
           - 4-You have as much proof he didn't say it as I do he did.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 12:15 PM   #45
              - That doesn't change the fact that when you quote someone...  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:18 PM   #47
                 - But PLENTY of people and historians credit it to Lincoln. Yet, your claim isn't sourced at all.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 12:22 PM   #49
                 - Please cite "plenty of historians" who say that that quote is from Lincoln.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:24 PM   #53
                    - He Will Not Be Able To, Sir:It Is In No Published Collection Of Mr.Lincoln's Writings And Speeches  The Magistrate   Oct-05-11 12:39 PM   #61
                       - The books on my shelf, Sir, totally agree with you.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:45 PM   #62
                 - True. I wish people would be skeptical of posts & emails that purport  Honeycombe8   Oct-05-11 12:30 PM   #55
                    - I reccomend your post. You said what I was trying to say so much more eloquently.  Democracyinkind   Oct-05-11 12:31 PM   #56
                    - Jeez, it wasn't really about who said it as much as it was about the fact that this fight isn't new.  FarLeftFist   Oct-05-11 01:00 PM   #66
           - You don't play well with others, do you?  WilliamPitt   Oct-05-11 01:17 PM   #68
        - Yes And No, Sir  The Magistrate   Oct-05-11 12:35 PM   #60
