98. Government means of production is
Soviet style communism, a different animal. We don't want the government making our clothes or building our houses. Socialism is about sharing. We practice socialism in this country by having community fire departments and police. We need it for health care and for safety net programs. We need our utilities to be run by municipalities and our mining and other extraction industries to be nationalized for the benefit of the people. Regulated capitalism combined with socialism and a democratic style of government results in countries like Denmark. It's what this country should be but isn't because of unregulated capitalism co-opting our government and taking the democracy out of it. And what about all these foreign nationalities taking our resources like BP? It's not what our Constitution had originally set out to do. Socialism allows the people to control their lives. It is supposed to be government by the people and for the people. Once we understand that concept that we are the government, then it's up to us to partake of it, not have it taken out of our hands by special interests, then you understand what real socialism is and that capitalism and free market economies are our servants not our masters.
