negative consequence?

In this case, Obama isn't saying that if you don't vote for him, he will enact some negative consequence on you. He is saying that if you don't vote for you, THEY will enact negative consequences on you, whether he likes it or not. What happens to you if you don't vote for Obama is completely out of Obama's control. (Obama will be fine -- he has plenty of money and will likely make much more when he leaves office -- but will you?)

If someone were to tell you not to jump off a high ledge, since you will get hurt if you do, would you consider that a threat? Really?
