I agree that children should be taught how to respond to verbal bullying.

I agree that children should be taught to defend themselves against physical assault; to DEFEND themselves, not to "fight back."

I'd like to see an equal amount of effort poured into teaching them to be empathetic, tolerant, kind, and respectful of others. I'd like to see all the adults in their lives modeling those qualities. We'd have far fewer bullies to worry about.

Finally, I'd like to see our school system structured in a healthier way. Smaller schools, smaller class sizes, more adults per student, reasonable and flexible duties and hours for those adults, better mentoring of students by adults on campus. We'd do a better job of preventing and/or responding quickly.
