and tried to avoid it completely. They were invited to both events but showed their American loyalty by avoiding the Russian revolution by choice. They tried to not be involved and associated with the Russian revolution from the beginning.

Edit: What the focus was all about was support or not for WWI. Only the communists at the time were anti-war, not the socialists. Hence the connotation which continues to today.
