Every other person that I knew was out of work.

Oil prices had gone through the roof. And the interest rate was over 18% - so real estate sales were in the toilet.

However, I think it would be unfair to blame Carter for any of it. I always felt that the Powers that Be pulled the rug out from under him. That both the oil prices and the high interest rates were the way they choose to get him voted out of office.

Carter went from having the highest approval rating of any President ever in three short months. (May 1979 to July 1979.) Through the Mainstream Media manipulating public opinion.
