At the end of the day, voters make their own decisions about whether to participate in exit polls. The interviewers can be ideally positioned, they can convey exquisite neutrality, but they can't force Democratic and Republican voters to be equally eager to participate. (If anything, publicizing the notion that exit polls can detect Republican machine-rigging tends to make Democrats more likely to participate.)

I agree that there is no evidence of widespread election fraud in recent years -- and that vote suppression has been a bigger problem. However, there are some excellent opportunities for widespread election fraud, which is why I spend a lot of time on election verification.
