Given that there are millions of Americans -- young, elderly, gay, straight, highly educated, high-school educated, rich, poor, black, white, star athletes, disabled, terminally ill, urbanites or rural types (and on) that identify as republican, your dictum rather radically simplifies.

Now if you are referring to party leadership, the claim is more persuasive.
