I read a lot about Jimmy Carter. Once I remember either his wife or himself admitting that the Carter Administration was in an arms for hostages style negotiation with Iran. Basically, the Bush crew (under Ray-gun) offered a better deal to the Iranians and got them to hold on to the hostages for a little while longer without any threat of retaliation.
