2. I suspect the Las Vegas Review-Journal chose this unusual arrangement to try to shield itself from
demands for legal fees: the natural arrangement would have been for the Las Vegas Review-Journal to sue directly for copyright infringement, perhaps using a lawyer who would take the cases on a contingency basis -- but if the infringement case was weak to begin with, a lawyer might not want to undertake the litigation on contingency, and if the case were very weak, the Las Vegas Review-Journal might have worried about fee judgments when it lost.So they set up Righthaven, which they claim is a separate entity, in the hopes that Righthaven could serve as a firewall protecting the Las Vegas Review-Journal against fee judgments
