She's making her statement. The statement being, " I am better than you, I have made it. I have succeeded, I am happy." Whether success in this case means "I am a pediatrician who worked tirelessly for the first half of my life to amass all of what you see," or "I married a man who spent the first half of his life working tirelessly so that I could acquire all of what you see," the result is the same. The loss of an identity to material goods and a disdain for where and what one came from. While there's nothing wrong buying yourself a new body and luxury car if you've acquired the means to do so, note how the pursuit of happiness never ends. The more you've got, the more you want. It's a race to which the only end in sight is that diamond studded, 200 thread count lined, designer coffin.
